Default FXD Shifter Question

I just tried to install a set of those adjustable floorboards (in place of my mid-pegs). I tried, but had no luck in getting a postion where I can get my foot under the shiftpeg. Can I just loosen the shift are and rotate it to a higher angle?

Thanks.

On way to do it, is to mark the original position. Put a mark on the shifter arm and a mark on the shaft. That you'll know where you were from the beginning.
