Ok

After checking around this is what I found

Cycle Shack $135.00

V&H $239.00

Rush $339.00

Why such a disparity in price. Are Rush really $200 bucks better?

My local HD dealer parts guy just tried talking me into a set of Rush pipes for $239, I thought.

I still love the sound of my stock pipes............. well, completely gutted with 2" lollipops, and they are tuneable[8D]

Still haven't decided on what I will eventually put on, but really like all the Rinehart pipes.

I have an 07 FXDL and went with the Rhineharts. I love the sound. But...as others have said - it's an individual thing.

Doug:

How does one gut the stock muffler? Do you have a "how to" on the 'under 50 bux' thread? Or can you share ... a new thread or PM me so as not to hijack this one (sorry dude). Have been thinking of sticking with the stock mufflers (gutted) with Big City Thunder baffles in the header pipes.

Well...the end of this thread. Just ordered the Rush with the 2.0 baffle. 299.00 from the dealer. I actually could not find them any cheaper online but I am sure someone is going to come up with them for 199.00 LOL

FuelMotoUSA.com sells the rush slip on's for $239 plus shipping and handling which I think is around $20bucks. I am going with the 2inch slip ons and from what I heard they sound great and are a good quality chrome.

I'm sure the difference in price is advertising. You see V&H all the time and Rush here and there, costs lots of $ to advertise and to show up on American Thunder every other episode.

I found out about Cycle Shacks from the local indys (I'm lucky I have 2 good ones nearby) and the older guys who have been riding a while. The other ones recommended were Dyno Power. I get a lot of good compliments on the way the Cycle Shacks sound.

The local dealer used to stock Cycle Shacks but switched to Rush a couple years ago, more profit for them I'm guessing.

Use whatever ones you like, it's your bike.

Enjoy the new sound! [sm=biker.gif]

Doug:

Thanks for PM and tips .... I just got around to drilling my stock mufflers with a 7/8" hole saw I had. I had to get an extension for my drill.

On the rear muffler, I was able to cut a hole all the way through so you can see through it. I was able to cut a plug out of the forward muffler, but you can't see through it like the rear one--there's some baffle material that's really hard to cut through with the hole saw. It just cuts a round grove (the depth of the hole saw) around the insulation material.

I went ahead and put them back on and it sounds much better. I figure that even if there is an uneven 'load' on the fore and aft cylinders the crossover tube will allow the forward cylinder to vent to the rear muffler, so no problem ... am I missing something here? What gives?

Thanks in advance for your input.
