I am going to be getting a set of slipons to make my Low sound better. HD dealer says I can use any type of slipons as long as I don't mess with the air filter. Which ones do you guys like. My price range is going to max at about 250.00
I had 2 sets - Screamin Eagle II's (pre-07) which aren't made anymore and Vance and Hines Straightshots. Pleased with both but liked the V&H's better. However, I did have a little popping with the V&H's probably because they are so open. That set off a spending spree for a fuelpak, to get rid of the popping, a stage 1 air cleaner, required to run a fuelpak, and then the Big Radius pipes because I've always wanted them and I already had the rest of the stage 1.
Everybody has their own favorite mufflers and they do all sound different and have different loudness. If you can, go to a bike event or somewhere there will be a lot of bikes and listen and look to find the ones you like. Rush seems to be a popular choice among others. You can also go to youtube and search for different brands and listen to them. But, sounds on the computer can't really duplicate real life so much.
I have the SEII Pro Performance slip-ons on mine. I like them okay, but they are not as loud as I would like. I have not done the stage 1 a/c yet. Not sure how much difference that will make sound wise...I wouldn't think it would make much difference. I got them brand new still in the box on ebay for $102 though....not bad.
I can't say by comparison that one is better than another but I love these Rush 2" on my WideGlide. Not to loud at cruise but when you roll in some throttle you don't just hear it, you can feel that 96 inches comin' thru. Went for a little ride after work today, wasn't trying to be loud but rolling thru town I set off 2 car alarms. I couldn't help but laugh a little.
I started with Vance & Hines Straight Shot slipons and, as mentioned, I had some problems with decel popping. I put in the "quiet baffles" and no more decel problems plus they sound great. Quiet baffle aren't noticeably quieter but will give you a deeper rumble and, it seems, a bit more torque in the low and midrange due to the additional back pressure. Gotta love it!!
My brother has Rush 1.75 Baffled slip ons on his Street Bob and I have 2.0s on my Fat Bob....mine is a little deeper sounding but both are HUGE improvements over stock and much better than the SE slip ons he had on his before.
