Default New fuel tank

I went down a couple of months ago and one of the items that got damaged was the fuel tank. I just received a new one and it just didn't look right, then I noticed why, the decal is in a different position. If you draw a line between the front and rear curvature of the gold pinstripe you can see that the decal is clocked more clockwise then my original tank as well as other tanks. Another problem is the rear mounting tabs, although hard to tell in the photo below, they got bent to the leftduring shipping, paint is also cracking / peeling in that area.

I emailed the dealer and got this response:
I called and talked to Bill at Harley who is in the warranty dept. of Harley. He said the decals are put on as slight angle, to follow contour. He said they are within specs. The bend tab would have been from shipping would would be OK since they are under seat and not seen, won't affect paint job.If you are still concerned you can call Harley and email them the pictures.
Question is, if you ordered a brand new tank, would you accept a damaged tank with a misaligned decal, keeping in mind that it cost over $1000.00Old Tank

hell no i wouldn't accept that bs. when you pay that much for something it should be perfect. keep complaining until you get a new tank. if things aren't working out with the person you are talking to, talk to their boss. keep working your way up. eventually you'll get to someone who doesn't want to deal with you and you'll get a new tank.

I have to say that I know things happen, but, it just isn't right. You, as a customer, spending that amount of money on a new MOCO part, deserve to be delivered an appropriate part. I would tell them to replace it. Someone else may want it.

Is the left side decal similarly "clocked"? I guess symmetry would be my main concern, as far as the decals. I would have to call "B-S" onthe explanation for the bent mounting tabs (occuring during shipping). I've seen a tank that had been boxed/shipped and there's no way...the packing wouldn't allow it, and wouldn't have affected both tabs equally. That said, if I could align them back up without fracturing the paint to where the tank could corrode, I'd probably do that. But you mention the paint is already cracked/peeling in that area. Hmmmmm, I think with all considered I'd be asking for a replacement-replacement. Ask yourself if it's gonna gnaw at you, even if no one else notices the decals or sees the damaged paint at the mounts.

Looks to me your original decals were not correct and the new tank is, but with a bent tab it doesn't matter, make them exchange it. If you paid via credit card file a dispute. Don't let them get away with it.

Oh yeah; I'd be asking to see that "spec" that this decal application supposedly falls within!

The part isn't ready for prime time. They should replace it. Don't even mention the decal issue to them. This is a hardware quality issue.

Harley reallyneeds to come up with a new excuse besides "it's within specs".[&:]That junk is gettin' way old. Wish I had a dollar for all the times they use that one.

Maybe they should try this ----> "Sir, we're sorry wegoofed on this one. Leave that tank here and we'll take careof getting a new one ASAP"

Oh if only ...

Mounting tabs bent to the left

Formula, bad news ruining the original paint.

I believe I remember you mentioned you were not hurt in the crash.

I like the "level" decal placement on the new tank,
but, if I looked at this in person, I may change my opinion.

The bent tabs are not acceptable,
especially that the paint deLaminated here.

Keep us updated, and push for the decal placement if that's what you want.
The change in orientation from original makes no sense,
(as you illustrate on the other DragonFlymachine).
