Default Clunk NOT the washer and torque???

Went to the dealer to have my '08 FXDC checked out for a front end clunk. After two hours of waiting, and watching them take another '08 FXDC off the floor, to the maintenance bay in the back, the tech came to talk to me. He says, "I got good news, and I got bad news." The good news, the washers been changed out, and the torque is correct. The bad news, there IS a clunk. They checked 3 other Dyna's they had in the back already, then pulled the one off the sales floor, and ALL of them did it! He said it sounded more like something inside the forks. He's going to call HD tech dept, and call me to let me know if this is something others have been complaining about, and/or getting checked out...

Just thought I'd share this with all of you, and I'll update you as soon as I get the call.

Have a good one!

What clunk? When do you hear it? I have a clunk on mine when the whell is dropped down, like into a hole. I figured it was normal and never really paid it any mind.

From what I understand and have experienced, it's the caliper and the way it sits on the floating rotor.

I have a new 08 LowRider and it aslo clunks when I pull out of my driveway and hit small bumps. It feels like it is in the forks. My 1k service is tomorrow so we'll see what the dealer has to say.

Well, there is a service bulletin about the front ens clunk. That's what I thought was causing it on mine, but I guess not. Pretty much is when the forks extend and then retract; like hitting a pothole, speedbump, etc.

Hopefully some of the guys who have had the service bulleting done, are still getting this clunk and can chime in. Haven't gotten a call back from the dealer yet, so I'll wait until tomorrow, then call him.

Got the service bulletin done. Got it home. Turned off the engine and rolled it back and forth and applied the front brakes extending and compressing the forks. Clunk. Clunk.
Jacked it up on a lift. Rolled the front tire forwards and backwards and applied the front brake. Clunk. Clunk.

I think it is the floating rotor (and might have been all along). I do not know now if the clunk before the accident and replacement of frame and fork tubes was the steering stem or the rotor. The clunk disappeared and came back shortly after the frame and tubes replacement and I don't know now which was the cause.

I am satisfied that it is the front brake rotor that I hear now.

Is this a problem or normal? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just picked up my '07 FXDC from the Dealer 30 minutes ago for the service bulletin fix. No more clunk, under any condition. For what it's worth, mine didn't start clunking until 10,722 miles. Never had any clunking before then. On the 30 mile ride back to the house, I made sure to hit every possible bump, small and large, to ensure the service bulletin fix actually did what it supposed to do. Mission accomplished

I know on my 06, I replaced the washer and adjusted the steering head nut and adjustment nut. Before, I could not only hear the clunk, but more importantly, feel the clunk.

After the work, all was good....no more clunk sound, no more clunk feeling. I also have a floating rotor.

I have read a post recently which talked about a newer Dyna which had the service bulletin work done, and they still experienceda similar noise which was narrowed down to becoming from a floating front rotor.

Loose gas tank bolt also makes a clunk that sounds like it's coming from the front end.

Good Luck

Experienced that too except it sounded like it was coming from the middle of the bike. I tightened the rear bolt and it stopped.
