Default SE 180 - done

Went to my indy as planned yesterday and got my SE 180 installed. Didn't get the kit. About 1 hour and 10 minute ride home and it rides and handles really well. Don't know if the wider tire or the newer rubber or a combo of them both but I feel really comfortable leaning it over in the turns. Went through a rough stretch where DOT has been reworking a road and did a lot of bouncing. Plan on looking it over for any potential wiring contact. There is no possible way it can touch the wires in the sides of the fenders but where they lead from either side to the tail light assembly, it may be possible - so I'll check it to be sure. Definitely didn't rub anything hard enough to have any issues on the way home though. This was the first one of these they had done on a dyna. He didn't even know about it until I showed him in the P&A catalog. Even then, he wasn't sure it would fit. He seemed impressed with the results though. Below is 1 before with the stock 160 pic and 1 after with the 180.

You can definitely see the difference in how that tire fills the fender more Greg. What is your overall impression of the 180 SE on a stock 17" wheel?

Looks good! You would think they would have put the 180 on there as the original tire if there are no fitment problems, but then they would lose all that upgrade $ huh.

It looks good. I for one made sure the kit was used. I just needed to know the wires were out of the way. I would check after two up or after riding a bit to insure the wires are not rubbing. I think the 60 dollars is cheap insurance. I know the feeling on this board about the kit. You will love the 180.

Jake, thanks for sticking them side-by-side. I couldn't figure out how to make my editor do that - at least not in the few moments I had to come on here yesterday and post the pix.

I think Dunlop has done a great job in making a tire to fit the 17" rim and still give more useable and visible width. That being said, if Metzeler had an identical tire designed for that rim, I probably would have bought it. I didn't want to jump into an 18" rim without taking any time to decide what I really wanted. For the most part, rims are really expensive so I'd want to make a good choice. I really don't see that I have a lot of here and there mods left that I want to do. Most everything I'd still like is expensive and labor intensive so it probably won't get done anytime soon. I'll use the time that I am not thinking about those little things to be thinking about if I want to go with different rims and what they should be. When it comes time for a new rear tire next time, everything from the hubs out may get swapped out. For now, just enjoying the new rubber.

Thanks - I'm very pleased. I checked under the fender this morning and the wiring is all good. I think if it stayed out of the way with what I went through coming home, it should be fine. Actually looking at it from underneath, it all seems to be VERY well out of the way. I agree that the signal relocation kit for the detachable sissy bar helps with the wiring as has been reported and makes the kit useless, if it wasn't already. Jake's side by side helps a lot. Of course, 20mm is not huge and I think the difference in the tread makes as much of a visual impact difference as the difference in width, if not more.

As far as spending more money, the HD retail on the tire is $192.95. Zanotti's sells it for about $155 but charges about $16 to ship it. My indy sold it to me for $173 but then took off 10%. Of course I had to sign up for his VIP program to get the discount which cost me $25 a year. So, the discounts I got on the tire, tube, and labor were right at what Ispent on the VIPbut the next time I go there, and I will go back there from now on, I'll save some money.
