I broke two home made side mounts then I said screw it and bought a Kuryakyn curved side mount and it's been on there since with no problems. I would suggest you just buy a Kuryakyn side mount, they offer several different ones. below are a few pics I took of my side mount and how it mounts to the swingarm, it's also adjustable at the pivot point so you can direct the plate holder up or down to your liking. it has six bright led lights built in so you'll be dot approved. excuse the pictures because my bike is filthy right now from riding home in the rain the other day.
