Default lowered suspension

This has likely been asked before, but why do guys want to lower their suspensions? My legs are very short, 29 inches, but I can sit flat-footed on my Super Glide. Is it simply a cosmetic thing, or some other reason? Just curious.

It is simply cosmetic, does nothing for handling or performance in any way. However there are some people that are so short they need to lower thier bikes to feel comfortable on them.BTW I lowered mine just for looks, I chopped my fender and the bike just looked stupid with Electraglide shocks I had at the time and not much better with the original 12" so I went to Progressive 412 11"s.

I want mine lowered for asthetics only. I have 18" apes so when you look at my bike from the front, there is a hell of alot of grey metal from the hub to the handles. I want to lower the front, install fork boots and powdercoat my lowers black. That should reduce some of the lengthy look.

Actually there is a benefit to lowering -- any time you can get the center of gravity closer to the ground, there will be a handling improvement, albeit perhaps not very noticeable to most, and the down side is there's more chance of scraping pegs/exhaust in the twisties if you're real aggressive. However, the esthetics, well that's up to each to decide what looks best -- me? I dig the slammed, in da weeds look, and that's why I lowered mine with shorter shocks and springs.
