No need to argue over this subject.&nbsp\\; This is one area where you basically get what you pay for.&nbsp\\; However, the poster said he didn't want to spend a ton of money.&nbsp\\; I'm sure there are better shocks than what I've got.&nbsp\\; Mine are pretty much the most common and probably the cheapest aftermarket replacement.&nbsp\\; If there is a better ride, then great.&nbsp\\; But, I'm nothing but happy with mine and it was a definite improvement over stock which was really not that bad to start with.&nbsp\\; In order to make this forum work best, let's just feed the guy our experiences and let him make up his own mind.

Agree .... but I'm serious - and not trying to argue.&nbsp\\; If Progressive cost $200 and are considered not even "fair" performing by some, and Ohlins probably go for &gt\\;$800, then I'd really like to know what the "experts" consider to be a "fair" performing shock without spending close to $1K?&nbsp\\; Sorry if the post went a bit sideways - but most posts usually stray a bit.

&nbsp\\;
In my opinion, nothing could justify that much more money.&nbsp\\; The ride and handling I get just can't get $600 better, it's not possible.&nbsp\\; Then again, I've never ridden the $800 shocks so I could be wrong.&nbsp\\; Or, maybe I just don't ride or need to ride in a manner that requires such an upgrade.&nbsp\\; But, whoever posted that either has something personal to gain from it or he/she really feels they are worth it - to them.&nbsp\\; I stated my opinion (a couple of times now&nbsp\\; LOL) and so did they.&nbsp\\; Now, the poster can make a better decision for them&nbsp\\;whichever way he/she goes.

first off longer shocks work better, most harley guys are into LO, no travel NO workie, i put YSS on my sporty better shocks at a better price, dont expect a cadillac at chevy prices, after you spent more than you wanted you will SMILE because you got what you NEEDED, dont go CHEAP

Just a small point, I don't consider 100.00 each for shocks CHEAP by any stretch, especially when shocks for my Tahoe only cost about 75.00 for high performance shocks. Like 2007fxdc said, I would be hard pressed to tell the difference 600.00 would get me. The 412s give me a much better ride than stock plus I still have adjustment either way should I desire to play with them and that’s reasonable for 100.00 each, even though I think it more than any shock should cost.
I raced with Ohlins on my Maico way back when and thought they were great, but they came stock on the bike.
The 412s will give you a very nice ride for the money, and you can use the savings for some more chrome or a long trip with gas prices today.

+1! &nbsp\\;I was going to say the same thing but decided to leave it alone.&nbsp\\; "Cheap" is relative, in this case, to the lesser expensive option.&nbsp\\; It doesn't mean they are inferior.&nbsp\\; They are still much better in ride AND in handling when compared to the stock shocks which, as I said earlier, are not really all that bad to begin with.&nbsp\\; I went with the 12" 412's to drop my ride 5/8" of an inch, not for a better ride.&nbsp\\; I just got a better ride as a side benefit.&nbsp\\; I really never expected the difference to be this noticeable.

How do I know?&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ ; I am the person (along with Eric Gray) who developed the Pensky's for these HD's and also a certified service center for both Penske &amp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; Ohlins.
so your biased??!!!

The truth is the truth.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; If a person knows no better or just can not afford it than they can do what ever they can to get down the road.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; As far as nothing justify the price of a good shock, either you can not afford it so you say that or are just inexperienced in riding.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; I am not here to argue with anyone as you can never explain experience.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;

As far as prices goes, expect to spend a $1,000 or more.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; I would never ride a bike without a good shock personally, the shocks in the photo goes at dealer price over $1,800/pair.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Are they worth it, yes!&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; I own a 2005 stock FXDL with stock suspension and when I am forced to ride it I dread it.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; It is not fun.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;

Any riding is better than no riding, the question was best.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; As not a lot of money a $1,000 is not a lot for what you get.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; What you settle for is another question only you can answer.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;

As far as a fair shock, YSS are way better than the Works Street Trackers and the Works are way better than the Progressive 440's &amp\\;\\\\\\; the 440's are way better than the 412's.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; I would much rather have a good riding bike than a lot of chrome that adds zero to the performance factor. After all, most think a bike is for riding.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; I give fair and truthful information on questions, most like to argue on subject matter. 2007fxdc you have a point on what you like, however, some do not agree. Quote {I'm nothing but happy with mine and it was a definite improvement over stock which was really not that bad to start with.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; In order to make this forum work best, let's just feed the guy our experiences and let him make up his own mind.}&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; When I read the original post I did not read anything about limited budget.&nbsp\\; Air shocks are mentioned?&nbsp\\; Either buy a good shock now and it lasts forever while taking it on to your next bike or settle &amp\\; spend your money on something else.&nbsp\\; As far as $100, it is solely your choice only. I made my personal one.
