Shock Recommendations
No need to argue over this subject. \\;\\\\\\; This is one area where you basically get what you pay for. \\;\\\\\\; However, the poster said he didn't want to spend a ton of money. \\;\\\\\\; I'm sure there are better shocks than what I've got. \\;\\\\\\; Mine are pretty much the most common and probably the cheapest aftermarket replacement. \\;\\\\\\; If there is a better ride, then great. \\;\\\\\\; But, I'm nothing but happy with mine and it was a definite improvement over stock which was really not that bad to start with. \\;\\\\\\; In order to make this forum work best, let's just feed the guy our experiences and let him make up his own mind.
Agree .... but I'm serious - and not trying to argue. \\;\\\\\\; If Progressive cost $200 and are considered not even "fair" performing by some, and Ohlins probably go for >\\;\\\\\\;$800, then I'd really like to know what the "experts" consider to be a "fair" performing shock without spending close to $1K? \\;\\\\\\; Sorry if the post went a bit sideways - but most posts usually stray a bit.
In my opinion, nothing could justify that much more money. \\; The ride and handling I get just can't get $600 better, it's not possible. \\; Then again, I've never ridden the $800 shocks so I could be wrong. \\; Or, maybe I just don't ride or need to ride in a manner that requires such an upgrade. \\; But, whoever posted that either has something personal to gain from it or he/she really feels they are worth it - to them. \\; I stated my opinion (a couple of times now \\; LOL) and so did they. \\; Now, the poster can make a better decision for them \\;whichever way he/she goes.
I raced with Ohlins on my Maico way back when and thought they were great, but they came stock on the bike.
The 412s will give you a very nice ride for the money, and you can use the savings for some more chrome or a long trip with gas prices today.
 \\;
Just a small point, I don't consider 100.00 each for shocks CHEAP by any stretch...
 \\;
+1!  \\;I was going to say the same thing but decided to leave it alone. \\; "Cheap" is relative, in this case, to the lesser expensive option. \\; It doesn't mean they are inferior. \\; They are still much better in ride AND in handling when compared to the stock shocks which, as I said earlier, are not really all that bad to begin with. \\; I went with the 12" 412's to drop my ride 5/8" of an inch, not for a better ride. \\; I just got a better ride as a side benefit. \\; I really never expected the difference to be this noticeable.
How do I know? \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ ; I am the person (along with Eric Gray) who developed the Pensky's for these HD's and also a certified service center for both Penske &\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; Ohlins.
As far as prices goes, expect to spend a $1,000 or more. \\;\\\\\\; I would never ride a bike without a good shock personally, the shocks in the photo goes at dealer price over $1,800/pair. \\;\\\\\\; Are they worth it, yes! \\;\\\\\\; I own a 2005 stock FXDL with stock suspension and when I am forced to ride it I dread it. \\;\\\\\\; It is not fun. \\;\\\\\\;
Any riding is better than no riding, the question was best. \\;\\\\\\; As not a lot of money a $1,000 is not a lot for what you get. \\;\\\\\\; What you settle for is another question only you can answer. \\;\\\\\\;
As far as a fair shock, YSS are way better than the Works Street Trackers and the Works are way better than the Progressive 440's &\\;\\\\\\; the 440's are way better than the 412's. \\;\\\\\\; I would much rather have a good riding bike than a lot of chrome that adds zero to the performance factor. After all, most think a bike is for riding. \\;\\\\\\; I give fair and truthful information on questions, most like to argue on subject matter. 2007fxdc you have a point on what you like, however, some do not agree. Quote {I'm nothing but happy with mine and it was a definite improvement over stock which was really not that bad to start with. \\;\\\\\\; In order to make this forum work best, let's just feed the guy our experiences and let him make up his own mind.} \\; \\; When I read the original post I did not read anything about limited budget. \\; Air shocks are mentioned? \\; Either buy a good shock now and it lasts forever while taking it on to your next bike or settle &\\; spend your money on something else. \\; As far as $100, it is solely your choice only. I made my personal one.
