Default modding an ann. edition... devalue or don't matter?

Bought the bike because it looked sharp, even in stock trim. It has a sundowner seat with p-pad and back rest, bags, etc. but while it looks sharp now, I am a die hard tinkerer, always have been, and the mod bug bit me many years ago.

That being said, should I hang onto all the stock parts in case I ever resell? Tins especially? or will it really matter in the long run whether or not the bike was/is an anniversary edition?

I see myself doing pipes first (after I throw away the handlebar fringe), then wire wheels, and maybe this winter diving head first into the engine. I tend to go overboard, so I predict a big bore kit, carb, cams, etc.

I think book value is maybe a few hundred more for the 100th ann bike, now, but am I chewing up a future collectible if I do this stuff?

The paint can always be replicated in the future but I'd save any badging, etc. if you end up removing anything.&nbsp\\; In my opinion, being an anniv. edition does mean that much to that many people right now as far as extra value.&nbsp\\; That may change much much later on though, you never know.&nbsp\\; I've got a friend with an 03 lowrider that is painted and mod'd to the point that you can't tell what year it is, much less whether or not it's an anniv. edition.&nbsp\\; I try to keep all my significant stock takeoffs for posterity anyway and mine is not any sort of anniv. edition.&nbsp\\; Someday, many many years from now, I or whoever owns the bike may want to restore it to factory condition.

Just my .02 cents but i dont think the 100th anniversary bikes are worth anything more. I traded in my '03 FXST 3 years ago and it didnt hold value. it was worth about $3k less than i paid for it. I have a buddy who swears that he won't mod his 100th superglide other than bags and a sissy bar so it holds its stock value. My view is that the MoCo flooded the market for the 100th anniversary and bike values went to hell in a hand basket. One idea you can always use is to go on Ebay and get another set of tins.... then you can save the 100th anniversary ones if you ever want to go back to stock.

That was my thought. Saving the stock tins and buying others for custom work.&nbsp\\; I knew they flooded the market pretty good, but wasn't sure how they would survive the years.&nbsp\\; My thoughts are to do just like mentioned... save the stock parts, other then that make the bike my own

Not so sure my '03 is worth anymore with the stock paint.&nbsp\\; Plus I like the paint.&nbsp\\; One thing to consider tho, getting it re-painted back is going to be expensive.&nbsp\\; Someone might be able to do it for you, but I'll bet to get it right you'll have to go to the dealer.&nbsp\\; I had my front fender replaced at the dealer and it cost $500 not including r &amp\\; r labor.&nbsp\\; Plus the wait time for the parts was almost 2 months.

Save the stock tins as they can't replace the 100th tape border when re-painting. Buy replacement tins that will fit a 2002 and modify to your hearts desire. Save whatever 03 parts you pull off. That way you can always return to stock later if you wish. Make the bike yours bro, that's worth more than a couple hundred bucks. Just my opinion, Bob

What year range tins will fit the 2003?&nbsp\\; (this really goes back to my 'what fits what' thread)

All my books say 98 thru 02 are all the same parts.&nbsp\\; But I have seen some items that say 00 thru 03.&nbsp\\; That's why I said buy 02 parts and you should be safe.&nbsp\\;Bob

I have tried 30 time to edit my last post and all I get is that STUPID ASP 500 error.&nbsp\\; It should read as follows. All my books say 98 thru 03 are all the same parts.&nbsp\\;But I have seen some electrical items that say 00 thru 03.&nbsp\\;That's why I said buy 02 parts and you should be safe.&nbsp\\;Bob

My opinion is the anniversary bikes will be worth a little more than say an 02 for example.&nbsp\\; But I know people who bought them as "investments " and I think they will be in for a&nbsp\\; big surprise[]
