Default Air filter Advise, please

Hi, I am&nbsp\\;new to the forum&nbsp\\;(from UK) and have bought a low mileage&nbsp\\;'07 Superglide Custom with what I think are 3" Khrome Werks slip-on mufflers. The air filter however is stock.
&nbsp\\;
I have a couple of basic questions:
&nbsp\\;
1. Can I just replace the&nbsp\\;stock filter with a K&amp\\;N and do nothing with the engine management or do I have to get a PC111 and start downloading ?
&nbsp\\;
2. Should I need the PC111, how difficult is it to&nbsp\\;install (preferring to do it myself) and how straightforward are the downloads ?
&nbsp\\;
Thanks
&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;

well if you do a stage one hd air cleaner kit and those slip ons, you may be able to get away with the stage one download from your local HD dealer, i&nbsp\\;dont have&nbsp\\;any experiance with this, sorry.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;or you could go with a PCIII incase your wanting to do more extensive mods in the future.&nbsp\\; the PCIII is easy to install 20-25 minutes.&nbsp\\; you can get one from fuelmotousa.com and it would be mapped for your set up, all you would have to do it install and go, providing the map is good enough.&nbsp\\; you should check out power commanders website and see if they have a map for your setup and call jamie at fuelmoto.&nbsp\\; good guy, he will steer you in the right direction.&nbsp\\; i dont know if he deals out of the country, but worth a shot.&nbsp\\; or maybe a PC dealer in the UK...&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
but you should change the air filter, backing plate and a few other small things, breathers and what have you.&nbsp\\; this will all come in a&nbsp\\;kit.&nbsp\\; so you can't just change the filter.&nbsp\\; but all this can be done at home with simple hand tools.&nbsp\\; i put on pipes, ac kit, and&nbsp\\;pcIII, removed all stock things&nbsp\\;that were being replaced in about&nbsp\\;3 hours.&nbsp\\; &nbsp\\;

do you know for sure you dont have a stage one kit in with a HD filter???&nbsp\\; i wouldnt know how to tell you, maybe there is a part number on the backing plate... check with hd and see what they say.
&nbsp\\;
is your bike running bad or something??&nbsp\\; if it aint broke dont fix it.&nbsp\\; or maybe you have a stage one download already and need to replace the AC Kit to make it run better.&nbsp\\; all things to consider.

&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; You can get the air filter upgrade from fuelmoto as well.

Thanks for the replies. I have checked and confirmed the air filter is stock. I also spoke with a guy at FuelMoto who was very helpful, I may well order a PC111 and FuelMoto air kit from them.
&nbsp\\;
I guess I don't really NEED to do this mod, but&nbsp\\;doing the stage 1 mods seems to be the "done thing" with most HDs, especially when I already have the slip-ons.

When you change to a K&amp\\;N, get two.&nbsp\\; I wash mine in the dish washer and allow it to dry for 2-3 days before I re-oil it and it's ready for the next change out\\; about every 1500 miles.&nbsp\\; This way I don't miss riding time when the filter is drying.&nbsp\\; The street bob can get pretty dirty being open to the elements more.

Once again, this is straight from the K&amp\\;N website:
&nbsp\\;
4. How often do I need to clean my K&amp\\;N air filter?

If you have not experienced a decrease in mileage or engine performance, chances are your filter is fine and does not yet need cleaning.&nbsp\\; To be more specific, the filter does not require cleaning if you can still see the wire screen on the entire air filter regardless of how dirty it may appear. When the screen is no longer visible some place on the filter, it is time to clean it. When used in normal paved road, street or highway conditions, our replacement air filters that fit in the factory air box should require cleaning every 50,000 miles and our large conical filters on an intake system should require cleaning every 100,000 miles. When used in dusty or off-road environments, our filters will require cleaning more often. We recommend that you visually inspect your filter once every 25,000 miles to determine if the screen is still visible.

By the way, a K&amp\\;N cleaning kit (cleaner and new oil) cost about $15.
&nbsp\\;
If you clean the filter every 1500 miles, that gets pretty expensive.
