Your wrong, many of us have older forward kits on. Your right about the shifter linkage rod being almost to short.. But It will work...

Hey Ron, what happens to the old shifter arm behind the primary? Is it just hanging back there? I have the '06 controls but want to install them like the '05 set.

HD makes a little adapter that ataches it to one of the small bolts on the engine case. Another I know just tie wraped it loosly to the linkage rod.. And jet another sawzawed it off (ouch), I just played with the position of the chrome cap, using it as a 'lock' on the out side of the primaries, and then found a ledge inbehind the transmission arm and pry the old arm inbehind.. not really pry, but yet enough tension as it doesn't move.. Hard to explain, but worked well. The bottom line is that old arm has no purpose or effect on any thing, just need to get it out of the way. And keep it from bangin around. By the way if you noticed the first 2 photos of my last post have a differant shifter linkage rod than the last shot,, the last is 1 inch longer.. Made it work a little better, keeping it off the top of the primaries. However I just realize as I'm typing you wont have that problem as yours in the correct kit to start with..You just wont have the chrome cap.. But you can get at HD.. Dont worry about it, just do it.. Its a very easy install, and in my case ,, a must have.... I would recommend leavin the mid pegs in place, its a nice change for your feet.. And if you dont like, you can always take off later... heres a couple of shots of the other side.........

Thanks Ronn, I'm gonna install sometime this week. As far as the cap goes, I'm gonna make one. I am the production manager at my families sheet metal fabrication shop. I'm sure I can come up with something. I think I might as well make a little bracket to support the arm also, rather than using a zip tie or the sawzall. I am planning on leaving my mid pegs, but i was going to cut them in half so they don't stick out so far. Beside I'm only going to use them as a resting point, on long rides. Thanks for your help, I'll post some pics. when I'm done.

Not to change the subject there RonnR, but where did you get your "touring" bag with the backrest? I had the forwards installed yesterday with my new V&H Big Shots, I bought the heel rests for the front and they really feel like boards, I bought the same boards you have for the rear when my wife rides. I love it, very comfortable...
I like the look you got, looks like your ready for the long haul.

Actually I got this bag from e-bay, Didnt have a manufacture tag? Had to make the back rest for it.. It works ok, just big enought for my cameras and a jacket.
The ones from Bikersfriend are so much nicer, and larger, in fact their bag will hold a fullface helmet..and it has an adjustable back rest,,,But there around $200.oo,, so I'l live with this one for a while, But all in all I like the backroll better that saddle bags.....

I bought the Bikers Friend bag, it's great. No need for a rain cover, serves as a back rest, easy on/off. They are expensive but well worth it.
