Default Forward Controls

I'm looking for some info on forwards, never had them. Install yourself or pay to have it done?? Seems to be a debate about the '06s and the primary cover. Who is reputable dealer, I've seen prices from $200-$800, what's the deal? Any thought on ones where I can keep the pegs I have?

Thanks,
J

I have seen pics. in this forum of Bobs w/ forward controls and the shaft is still sticking thru the primary with a cover on it. It doesn't look to bad and it make the job alot easier, you won't even have to open the primary. As far as the shaft cover goes, I'm not sure where to get one. I'll probably end up making one and painting it flat black. I just don't have the money right now to pay someone to work on my bike. So I'm taking the easy way out. This time it has more to do with comfort than looks.

I've thought about them myself. I do like to take long rides and shift around a bit on the seat. Would you have to stay in the same position or do you still have the flexability to shift around like I do from the regular pegs to the highway pegs?

I was thinking about leaving the mid. pegs in there original position. So that I have two different foot positions. I'm hoping to do the install this weekend I'll post pics.

I bought a blacked out forward kit for a '03 Dyna off Ebay for 125.00, then had to buy the chrome cap from HD, Installed myself, very pleased.... if you buy a new kit for '05 it is chromed and comes with the cap for around 280.00, or the kit for the'06 is 320.oo or so with the gaskets and a plug for the hole, however you just about have to have HD install (another 300.oo or so).. My dealer wanted $700.oo for parts and labor. I did it my self for under 150.oo.. I dont mind the cap at all considering the price differance...

i found that forward controls put a load on my rear and back after riding for a while. all the weight is sitting on the seat only. i ride a WG and added mid control foot pegs from ebay. i have to be careful stopping because the new position pegs are where i put my legs for support of the bike.

SO what's the deal when you leave the mids? Are they still funtioning or are you talking about leaving the pegs? If that's the case wouldn't highway pegs be cheaper?

Ron,
So any 03 forwards will fit on a 06?? Anything modifications? What years will work for an 06? 2000, 2001,2002, etc.. Sorry, not that knowledgeable on this.
