I did my big bore kit with SE211 cams, mikuni carb, and SE ignition module for about $1500 - didn't do the heads yet but I'm happy with the performance increase so far.
My question is can you pick a cam that is good for the stock heads and also would do the trick when you find money to do the heads.
Does Woods TW6-6 cams fit that bill?
Nothing worse than paying twice. Especially when you really don't have the money in the first place.
Yes...they're definitely cams you can build on. And they're just bolt in cams. Just make sure you've got a good exhaust to work with. Too many of the new "pretty" exhausts are just that..."pretty." Get a good 2into1 and the TW6's and you'll get good results. Then you can build up with head work and a 103 or 107 later. Just my honest opinion. Talk with Scott at Hillside cycle, best in the biz right now.
This if from an email that I got when I was looking for stuff to do. If you check out the sites it seems like the man knows his stuff pretty well.
How about nothing more than a bolt-in cam and some good tuning to get 90HP/100+ft.lb torque? http://tuneyourharley.com/gallery/v/...age+1.BMP.html . This is the most cost effective upgrade available for the 96CID engines.
I'd use SE Race Tuner over PCIII and SE air cleaner kit or the K&N (for Dyna's should be available in the next 45 days). For exhaust, I'd probably go to a SuperTrapp 2-1, D&D 2-1 or a simple set of Khrome Werks slip-on mufflers. I would take these exhaust systems over the V&H. I also recommend the S&S adjustable pushrod kit that has new pushrod covers.
Of course the quality of the engine tune has a lot to do with your maximum power, but this bolt-in cam upgrade does show what is possible with some simple upgrades and good tuning.
The big question here is:who are you going to get to do your install and tune?Since you are not going to do it yourself you need to find someone/place that you trust. Then discuss with them what you expect to accomplish.A lousy mechanic/tuner can FUBAR your bike.
