Hello there, I've been a Forum member for over 2 years, and I spent most of my time in the Sporty forum. On October 20th I was rear ended on my '05 XL1200C and to make a long story short, I will be totalling my bike and I'm looking for a Dyna as a replacement. Right now I can narrow my choices to a few different Dyna models - namely the Super Glide Custom, Street Bob or WG models.
I'm kinda partial to the Superglide custom. If that's the bike of your decision, some detachable saddle bags for a 2 up weekend ride, or stripped down for commuting it would still be a great looking bike.
YO, if you go with an 05 & and down you can use some of your front end parts! If your starting over fresh then look at the superglide custom,it starts you of with a lot of chrome!
They are all good choices, But I would look at what you plan on doing to it after you buy it. Keeping it stock? Plan on a lot of 2-up riding? You into chrome or the blacked out look? Best value I would say superglide custom.
Took a look at a denim black '06 Street Bob. The seller had forward controls installed, a laydown license plate, Samson pipes, Stage One a/c and Power Commander, dyno tuned. The bike has 2100 miles on it and is in perfect condition. He's asking $10900, but isn't necessarily firm on the price. He's also willing to take some cash and will work with me on the taxes. Said if I rode the bike and was interested he would hold the bike until my insurance claim/financing went thru.
I'm thinking of making an offer of $10k, $4 k in cash. Add about $600 in taxes and registration and I'm looking at under $7k financed at a rate of 5.49%. My Sporty loan was for $7800+ @ 6.75% with a payment of $155/mo. So my payment will a bit less than that.
I realize that this bike is nearly the polar opposite of the chromed out Sporty custom it's replacing, but I've always liked the bobber look and I'm looking for an improved ride. I would add a few chrome parts eventually to personalize the bike.
A couple of questions --
- Since I ride weather permitting about 75% of the time (around 10k per year), I'm interested in the fuel mileage. What can I expect from a dyno tuned FI 1450??
- How is the ride on the stock suspension vs a Sporty?? A Sporty with Progressives?
Slight Mileage drop...not too much though....bike will be MUCH smoother than the Sporty. I just traded my 1200C for a FXDL and it's like a Caddy compared to the Sportster.
Any Dyna would be a great choice. Just decide how much you want to pay for the stock bike and then decide what extras you may want to add. Also, there is some good deals on the '08 models coming up since '09 model have already hit the market.

Thanks for any and all replies....
I went from on 05 XLC to an 08 Street Bob the difference in ride in night and day, you sit on the sportie, while you sit in the bob, I love it!
