My 2000 Deuce didn't do it, riding the same roads with this bike as I did with the Deuce. I checked everything under the sun, asked a few buddies who have dyna's and all of them say it's normal. We swapped bikes... his does it as well. (06 Street Bob). Then rode my bosses 07 883 Sporty... it did it but not near as bad! My buddy with the bob just said... welcome to dyna hell, it's better than the softail in every way but one...
Is the Softail Deuce front end different? it's wide like my glide... but holy crap talk about feeling like it's gonna fall apart any second.
any body got a cure?
...besides putting on "The Cure" or going to see a Doctor to get the Cure
Being an Auto technician during the day, I don't like my stuff rattling or clunking... very annoying to me.
Last night, while lane splitting on the way home & hitting Botts dots, my '08 Fat Bob started to sound like it was falling apart. It has always make a few too many rattles and thunks when hitting pavement irregularities and Botts dot for a $15K bike but this sounded much worse. I've narrowed it down to the gas tank. While straddling the bike, I can grab the tank at the front with both hands and move it up and down. You can hear the tank contact the frame. I still need to check if the front mounting bolt is torqued to spec but you may want to check your bike too. It seems almost like there is a rubber bumper between the tank and the frame that is missing but I could not find any reference to a bumper in the service manual.
Mine was making a noise over large bumps and it turned out to be that the rubber grommet that is on the kickstand moved and the kickstand was banging off of the frame. I moved the grommet and it was fixed.
