I tried using the search function, so go easy on me...I'm looking for advise getting a quick dissconnect windshield for my '09 Street Bob.
What are ya'll using specifically for your SB model and why? I'm short, at 5' 6 1/2", so I'm thinkin' maybe a shield 15" from the top of the headlight?
Anyone using the Memphis Shades brand, and does their quick dissconnect attach to the forks like the HD shields? I don't want to have brackets bolted to the handlebars when the shield is not in place.
I'm not plannin' to use the shield too much, I like the looks of the bike stripped down, but I'd like to do some highway cruisin' and not get wind blasted and fatigued which is happening now. The wind is sometimes kickin' my ***.
You and I are within 1/2" of each other. I have the HD Quick Detach Low Profile w/s that I put on when I hit the hiway. Works great and on/off in about 2 seconds, seriously.
I am using a H-D standard height quick detachable wind screen on my '07 Dyna Street Bob. Great for Highway cruising. I was a bit worried at first about the damn thing flying off at speed, but had it up on the MPH gauge quite a few times and no worries. I go from garage to security gate parking lot so no worries from the five finger bandit. Absolutely love the quick disconnect-ability. Looks good with it installed too, like a police bike (H-D brand not those Kawi guys). The touring model has some fugly cuts for defecting wind around the hands. I really didn't notice too much of an increase of air flow over the hands, but at 70 what's a few more CFM's of air?
I am about 5'10" and the standard Ht. is just about right for me. You do get a bit of helmet buffeting with the full face bucket but nothing too bad. Oddly with a half shell it seems to be much less, if any at all. Also you don't have to use eyewear with the screen and no worries about massive eye watering. But I seem to get every particle of dirt and bug in my eye anyway so I always wear eye gear. Fatigue also seems a bit less but haven't been on any 1K rides yet so can't really comment on that. You didn't ask but fuel economy really isn't effected. I get the same at 70 as I do without the shield. Wind banging you chest or Lexan, I don't think the wind really cares.
I also bought a storage bag to keep it clean and protected when not in service. For the extra few bucks it isn't a bad investment. I put hangers on the garage wall and it hangs out of the way by the handles and out of reach of the lawn mover and such. Best part is when it's removed, all of it is removed, no bulky hangers left behind. Makes for a nice clean look.
i am 5'9 no issues what so ever on buffing... harleys quikc release... ROCKS... took all the hardware off and i powedered it all black... here are some pics:
I use the HD compact with the quick release. No hardware left behind and Ive had the bike up over 100 mph with no problem. I also cut about 6" of the top. It works great.
Ya, but I'm built like a monkey, long arms, short legs and tall torso.
Black powder coating looks bad ***. I might have to do that to mine. H-D should sell them that way. Where did you get the dice risers?
ya i am short but wide as hell... all those years of body building left me with a HUGE back that does not fit into many jackets... i am like a kite without a shield on when i am riding the highway.... Risers are loner industry original brother... they KILL! i have a ton of dice accents on my ride all cut from metal... most of which loner did some i made and some a buddy did for me...
