How much is too much!??
I suppose one could find a screamin' deal on a good used bike on craigslist or e-bay (or elsewhere) and put all their spare pennies into fixing it up and/or customizing their ride ....
I think you ask a good question: who is more passionate?
- The average guy who bought retail and has spent three or four grand bolting on (or paying someone to bolt on) some chrome goodies and maybe an A/C, pipes and fuel management system ...?
- The poor guy who scrounged to buy a second hand bike and busted his @ss to beg, borrow and steal whatever performance and bling he can?
- What about the rich businessman or doctor who has a country club membership, boat, fancy cars, etc. and thought nothing of dropping thirty grand on a CVO with some further 'customization' to his liking?
- Do they have to make their own parts?
I think there are probably some of each on here and I would be remiss to say any of them are more or less passionate about their respective bikes. Does living their passion mean their bike has to be their primary mode of transportation? How many miles a year does it take to live one's passion?
Kinda goes back to the old 'Who's really a "Biker"?' and 'Who's a "Poser"?' questions you sometimes see pop up around here on the forum.
Not to bust on ya ... just asking some questions and giving some food for thought. We cool?

As much as I love how my bike came out, there are days that I wish I had put that $$$ into a Street Glide, but that's the beauty of hind sight.
Agreed. Once the $$$ start to approach a down payment on a new bike, I'd rather get the new bike. For example, I'd love to do a wide glide conversion on my FXD but for the 2 grand or so that it would cost, I'd just go buy a used FXDWG.
