That's weird. I didn't have to do that on mine when I put the footboards on this past Monday. Just unscrewed the brake rod from the master cylinder, then unbolted the peg mount from the frame and it slipped right off easy as pie.

Does your bike have the stock exhaust?

Once you get the brake pedal set up, double check that the rod doesn't hit your exhaust when you push the pedal.

Mine just hit the exhaust a little bit with the pedal pushed.

I had to take a grinder to mine just to give it some clearance...depending on how you adjust it, it may or may not hit.

I have Python 2-1s with the 2005 model HD forwards on my 2006...maybe that is why mine hit a little.

I changed to the Kuryakan extended forwards last weekend. First off, getting the new, longer brake arm on is tough with the forward peg mount on, so I'd advise putting the brake arm in before the mount, which is opposite what Kury says. Secondly, I left my forward shifter arm and shaft on for two reasons, one, I can put the mids back on should I or a buyer wish too, and second, the shift-shaft spline gets a "beauty cap" with the kit that looks just fine too me. I know some don't like it, however. You will need to secure the forward shifter arm because if you don't it will most likely fall to the rear and get in the way of the rear shift arm/shifter shaft and you won't be able to downshift once in third or fourth. Kury included a rubber-coated thingy do lock it down and it works fine, though it's not very obvious how to do it, at least to me. One last bit of advice, the Kury forwards don't come with foot-pegs, and they'll only fit certain HD pegs, so check what you have. I upgraded to the Kury Stiletto pegs and stirrups, as my stock HG pegs would'nt fit the Kury forwards.

huaust3,

What do you mean the kury forwards dont work with certain HD pegs? All the HD peg should have the same male mount that the kuryakyn male mount pegs use. Which part doesn't fit precisely? This is the first time I've heard this.
