If you are replacing the OEM soft rubber grips, you can take a razor knife and slit the left one, then pull it off. The right one will come off with the throttle barrel. If your new grips come with a new throttle barrel, you are good to go. If not, you will need to cut the right side and separate from the throttle barrel. Of you have a syringe, you may be able to inject solvent under each grip and work them off as the adhesive loosens. Be careful with solvents around finished surfaces.

Wayne, some folks will tell you to use a razor blade to take them off which will work, but obviously ruins them if you ever want to use them again. The easiest way is to remove the clutch assembly (all of 4 screws) and then take a long, fairly slender screwdriver and work it under the grip. Once you've created a little gap, spray some WD40 in the gap and work the screwdriver around to squirt some more WD40 in there. You should be able to grap the grip and twist using the screwdriver to help loosen the grip. It'll pop off fairly easily and you still have a good grip. Clean the handlebar up with some warm, soapy water and put your new grip on.

I was able to twist my left grip by hand after removing the housing and break the glue free. Right one will slide off after removing the housing and taking the ferrules out.

Use a hair dryer to heat up the grip and glue first... then twist it off. Don't lie, I know some of you trashy mullet bikers have hair dryers!!!

I heard when installing new grips spray the handle bar end with Aquanet hair spray. WHen it dries it's sticky but you can get them off next time. I have been using grip glue for bicycles. (cheap and easy to find.) Also an option. If you don't want the old grip just slice it down the middle.
