Went out today (8 deg F) Road finally dry after the snow melted. I was colder than a titches wit. My question is how about the bike? The bike seemed fine, but is there anything to worry about in cold cold weather? What is the coldest you can ride the bike in? The reason for the ride? The snow melted and I wanted to check out the new 6" rise handlebars vs. the 8" rise, not that I NEEDED a reason though.
You're crazy although I've been thinking about it when the snow clears when I put my straight shots on, but man that's crazy. Today was -12...I think not!!! Although Friday on the way home from work this guy was riding something. Not sure what kind a bike it was, but it was a 32 mile ride on the country road with nothing for miles and ice on the road and it was 20 Degrees. He had a big ole snow suit on, but whatever works for you. I think the answer is how cold you want to be when you ride?? 8 is to cold for me!!
I personally hate riding below 40f but I always wonder if the extreme temperature swings, ie 3 degrees to over 250 degrees and then back to freezing again have any effect on our engines?
All I know is that 8 degrees I would have NO ***** left to worry about freezing off. These last 2 1/2 months till the weather gets warm always drive me crazy with anticipation.
Picked my new scoot on sunday, it was 35 when I left the house. Not a miserable ride, but might have been if I wasn't so excited about tradin the sporty for the Fat Bob. Too cold to do it on a regular basis, just not comfortable with so much clothes on. I wouldn't live anywhere that 8 degrees was a normal temperature much less ride my bike in it.
I ride mine here in Sweden so long as there's no ice..maybe 0 or just plus 2..add wind chill factor when your doing 70-80mph...leave you to work the science out but its damn cold..stop to warm up every petrol station..but the bike rides good..no probs.
