I saw the thread on this issue and the same thing appeared on my bike sometimes. If it is a Headset problem it would do it all the time, everytime you applied the front brake, hit a bump. Mine did it sporadically.
I had a friend sit on the bike, hold the front brake and rock the bike back and forth, only to hear the same thing. I looked and felt for movement at the the head bearings adj/nut, nothing. I followed the sound to the front fork some noise, then I notice that the front brakespads moved with the noise. Bingo. HD new floating brake system, that explains why they only do it sometime.
Now how do I stop the squealing of the rear brake?
Brake squeal is usually caused by the pads vibrating in the caliper. Take out the pads and clean the back of the pads and the contact point in the caliper. Apply a little bit of Permatex Disc Brake Anti-Squeal. It's like glue. Let it sit overnight and you're done.
