Talking Redneck Windshields

Ok everyone lets here it. I'm taking a road trip next month. Now I've taken road trips before, I have a dyna streetbob, but after 5 or six hours of highway ridin the wind starts to beat you up a little....well a lot. Its amazing how much exausted one gets without a windshield than with one. So, not wanting to buy a shield for one trip and ofcourse ya have a friend saying windshields are for ....well you know...begins with a P??? (John Wayne is everywhere)I'm just not ready to buy one even though some are inexpensive, it's the point. Not ready, it's kind of like being old enough for a AARP card and refusing to get one while laughing at you friends who carry one.
I wanted to hear some ideas from some of you on what you have done to help buff the wind instead of buying a windshield. Perhaps a bag tied across the front bars, etc.
I'm not cheap but if I buy a windshield I know I'll use it for this one trip an the it will sit in the garage. I like feeling the wind while riding around town.
So lets hear about some Redneck windshields......

I know this wont help you, but I really wish HD would rent windshields out for road trips. I guess if they did that though...fewer people would buy windshields. I'm like you; I want it only when I absolutely need it.

Get some glasses that fit the eyes really tight, sunglasses and clear for nightime, cheap ones because the can blow off, or goggles. Get a gangsta hood that covers your face and neck, a novelty helmet, a leather jacket, chaps, and gauntlet gloves and boots and a leather vest. It has never failed me. You can wear any combination of these depending on the weather conditions. I have used these in rain and cold down to 32 degrees. When I first started riding I learned the hard way, 50 miles with no leather in freezing rain, now I'm a member of the polar bear submarine club.

I rode over 700 miles on my first day with my bike taken it home and i did not have a shield the next day my arms and shoulders hurt so bad from the wind pushing me. I had a old shield in my garage and i got out there and made it fit my bike. I will never take another long trip with out one no matter what anyone has to say about it.

Default Windshield

I have an HD detachable on my Street Bob. I have never taken it off. I makes riding in cold weather bearable and on long trips you will still feel human when you get off the bike. Plus in Korea in the summer time it rains alot and without the shield riding would be miserable

If you want to cruise around town you can take it off.

Quality wise I had a Windvest on my Sportster, they are thicker, and detach with an Allen wrench very quickly

I keep mine on due to the high winds this time of year in Dallas and temp changes. I take it off in the summer for local rides but if you get caught in Rain its worth it. It dosn't look that bad either.

Try... if you can... riding in 'crouched-over-the-tank' position. Your upper body will aerodynamiclly cut through the wind.

You might consider a seat that provides you with a backrest. Some of the strain of riding long distances without a windshield can be alleviated by having some lower back support. Also alleviates the "I'm gonna get blown off this thing" feeling, and your muscles will hold less tension while riding.

I have a quick detach for my FXDBI. Despite numerous adjustments, I haven't fixed the helmet buffeting issue. Thus, I leave the windshield at home, and enjoy the wind.

What kind of shield is that one? Looks good, better than most shields on Dynas.
