Another thought (or question) Why do people think you have to wait until the little check engine light goes out before starting your bike?
Perhaps because in the owners manual for the bike, it describes the starting sequence. Although it does not say 'wait for this step to complete', the text as laid out, would lead someone to believe that they need to wait the 4 seconds for the light and 2 seconds for the fuel pump before proceeding to the next step.
I for one, will wait because I know the ECM is booting, going through a self test routine and taking readings of all the sensors..... and I am just not in that much of a hurry to worry about 5 or 6 seconds.

You are correct the manual does not state you have to wait for the light to go out so that's my question, why do some people think you have to wait? It doesn't hurt the bike to start it before the self check completes. Never understood how that myth got started.
On newer bikes with a PCIII if you wait till the fuel pump quits pumping when you first turn it on then try to start it, it starts harder than hitting the start button immediately after turning the key on.
I know for me the salesman specifically stated to wait for the light to go out before starting. I figured if I can start a car without waiting I can stgart the bike the same. I let the pump cycle and go.
