Just wondering if I need new cables and wiring to go to 16 inch apes on a 05 WG or if the stock cables and wires have enough slack? I was going to leave the stock mini apes until I have been messing around with a buddy's Street bob with 16's and they fit me perfect so now I'm doing some investigating.
yes... i was able to do 16.5 total rise on my bobs stock cables but it took alot of re routing and bending of brake lines... you are going to have to replace them on the WG though not enough there
That's what I figured, the brake looks like it may be tight. Clutch looks like some play along with the wiring harness but it's hard to tell without really digging in at this point.
I been looking at this setup allso, I have got the stock apes on with 4 1/2" risers so I'm sitting at 14" and have just enough idle/throttle cable, had to tweak the brake line and the clutch is still good.I think the wiring would be good on the 16" but I belive the clutch would need to be extended along with the brake,idle/throttle cables.
My 05 required a little extra wire harness with only 14" apes. Another member said he was able to stretch his wires to 16" apes on the same model. I guess some are different. The cables I was replacing anyway. I just ordered extended length out of the gate. I never tried to see if the stock cables would work.
I'm smack in the middle of this project, my 04 Wide Glide was totally stock. I'm doing 16" Wild 1 apes with fat stock height risers. Went 8" over on throttle/idle & clutch cables, and a 50" universal brake cable.
I'm just doing the wiring now, the stock wires are long enough to do the bars but it looks like I'll need 6-8 inches of extension for both to go into the frame.
Hope this helps!

Reason: changed wiring length
