I had a road glide that I wasn't completely happy with. Went to my dealer to look at a RKClassic, but after riding it, decided I wanted something lighter, but not a sportster. I decided on a custom, but they were all gone, there, so the salesman said, "You really want one, I'll find you one". They went 200 miles to my previous home town and traded a WG for it. Got exactly what I wanted and enjoy it more than any Harley I've ever owned...dd50
Bought my Low Rider cash with my first publishing deal. Got my brother a Night Rod Special too. Good day for both of us. ....The salesman was pretty damn happy too.
Got bored with my Triumph Sprint and decided I needed a Harley...bought a 2011 Road Glide and was at the dealer looking for parts to make it special when I threw my leg over the Fat Bob. Man do I wish the dealer had a Fat Bob the day I bought the Road Glide...it would have saved me so much money!! lol Wish I could have kept them both...RG for the really long rides and rainy days and the Dyna for every other day!
In the early nineties, in Europe, I had a Vulcan 1500A. The wife never wanted to ride duo. So we got a Goldwing. She joined once, and I was stuck with the Goldwing. Once, when I took it to the shop for a service, I saw an FXRS-SP that I just couldn't resist. Rode that for a long time, but always thought it looked a bit skinny. That FXR was sold when I moved overseas, where I rode what I could get, like a Chang Jiang 750 sidecar in China, and some 500cc bike in Africa. When I moved to Dubai, traffic was bad. So I didn't ride for a while. When the Fat Bob came out, it looked like the bike that had all the things I missed in the FXR. Like twin headlights, a beefy front form and fat tires. So I just had to buy it. And I've not been disappointed.
Well, mine's a bit of a long one. I've spent 16 years up in the remote high arctic working as a regional airport manager. This past summer, the airport I am based out of was witness to a horrific crash of a Boeing 737, killing 12 people. I lost my neice, and several long term friends that day. It was a hard time for everyone, and trying to juggle my personal feelings, as well as maintain proffesionalism left me reeling with a large amount of guilt and sadness.
Anyway, during the aftermath, and TSB investigations, my Director suggested I take some time off after what I went through.
So, on the phone with my brother from the South,(who in fact sells Harleys), we were chatting about what I'd like to do with my time off. He reminded me of always dreaming of buying and customizing a Harley. So, two weeks later, I'm standing at his dealership eyeballing the new machines. They were all nice, but nothing jumped up at me until that night we went to have a look at an old Road Glide he was in the process of rebuilding being stored at a friends house. His friend had his '10 Street Bob sitting there, and it was love at first sight. So, after some haggling, and crunching numbers the next day, I walked out of the dealership with his Bob, and he walked away with a new Street Glide. I've spent the last 4 months tinkering with it, and it was just what the doctor ordered to put my grape back on straight.
used to ride to kindergarden on my dad's shovelhead lowrider.. always wanted one growing up. wanted a nighttrain in the worst way. in 07 i went to a dealer in greensboro and was looking at bikes, the salesman showed me this new bike harley recently came out with called a streetbob. LOVED IT!! fast forward to jan 2010 i had an hour to kill @ work, so i went to the local dealer and looked at it again. saw the price and convinced myself if i could quit smoking, i could afford the fxdb. put the salesmans business card on my dash and i had the habit kicked in 30 days. i obsessed over my bike until march, went to a dealer who had my bike in stock, and made the deal. picked her up st. patricks day 2010.. love it so much!! as soon as it's paid off in june i'm going to start looking for a roadking to build a bagger out of. have me a nice bagger, and a hotrod dyna!!!!
