I was just curious to find out exactly what year did the Dynas get the rubber-mounted engine?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-...on_Super_Glide

"The production FX Super Glide was released in 1971 to a lukewarm reception. Particularly not well received was the "boattail", which also proved to be unpopular on the Sportsters that had it. Sales of both models improved when less radical rear styling was made available"

"The FXR Super Glide II was introduced in 1982 and sold alongside the existing FX models. The FXR chassis was essentially an FLT Tour Glide chassis with lighter frame tubes and a more conventional design around the steering head. As such, it offered a rubber-mounted engine and a five-speed transmission, as opposed to the solid mounting and four-speed transmission of the original FX chassis"

I may be wrong (I'll surely be corrected) but....I believe that they started calling them "Dyna" when the gave them the rubber mounts.

OOPS!...I missed CRF's post before replying.

I don't think this last paragraph is accurate. The FXR had some similarities to the FLT frame, but it was not based on it. It was a clean slate design.

Also, the FXR was not a Dyna. The Dyna frame was an attempt to incorporate the look of the original FX with a rubber mounted engine. The Dyna and FXR were sold simultaneously for many years.

To be honest, I dunno, I tried to research it and that is what I found, it was a little before my time . If it is incorrect someone should contact Wikipedia and get the information corrected. But either way no big deal to me.
