In 82 HD introduced the FXR and FXRS. New frame, rubber mounted (hence the R in the nomenclature) shovelhead, and a 5 speed. In 84 this model migrated to the Evo engine but continued to be called the FXR/S. Not sure what year the Dyna name and frame overhaul occurred but my answer would be that Dyna (FXD) have always been rubber mounted.

That would have been my response ... more or less ....

"Dyna" is a relatively new name ... I think it might have been introduced around the time the Twin Cam motor replaced the Evo ....

On the other hand, the "Super Glide" model lineup was introduced in 1971 ... before the advent of rubber mounting ... I think the letter designation was FXE ...(?)

I think they started calling them Dyna's in 95'? I had several FXR's starting with an 82' the first year built, and thought they handled better.

Still had too much AMF influence left over.....it was a total piece of sh*t. Left me stranded I don't know how many times.

I had an 82 FXRS before the Street Bob - in fact it was the reason I bought the Dyna. The FXRS was unquestionably (yes, I know others will disagree - to each their own) THE best handling frame HD ever produced. Like you, I got tired of "wrench a week, ride an hour. wrench two weeks, wait a week for parts, wrench again, ride an hour" and sold the ol' shovel to someone who enjoys wrenching more than I do.

My dyna is a great bike and when it comes to reliability there's no comparison. But as good as it is, it really doesn't handle as well and it definitely lacks the indescribable "soul" the shovel had.

The Dyna series was introduced in 91. And 82 was the first FXR with rubber mount.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
I had a 91 FXRS Lowrider, The last year they produced it. I test rode a new Dyna at the same time I bought my FXRS and prefered the old chassis. Still do.
I got to ride my actual old bike a couple of weeks ago (My buddy's Dad bought it from me in '95) and I still prefer it to my 06 street bob.
That old FXR Chassis was sweet.
