Default turn it off and on during riding

Hi everyone. I own a '97 dyna having only 15kmiles. Somebody just taught me how to make explosions from the pipes by turning the engine off and on during riding. So silly, I have done it, and then something went wrong. Now, one of the cylinders does not work giving a strange sound (like a valve or pushrod strikes). Since, I have no service within 300 miles around, can somebody tell me what to check? Could it be a major damage I made on the engine hardware?

Thanks for reading and replying

Yes, it is unfortunately real, I am so embrassed to tell that to anybody, and the guy who taught me was the h.o.g. chapter leader doing in the same thing in highway tunnels...

You probably broke a valve spring, bent a pushrod, or worse!

Thanks, I hope it is just a spring. I will just hold my breath, try to be brave enough and start dismounting the engine. Even hearing that it could be a valve spring was a serious relief.

I used to do the same thing when I used to drive dump trucks. We'd wait for a car to pull up alongside when they were passing and then turn it off and back on. Fun to watch their reactions when it backfired. But then again, not my truck.

Good luck

My bet is on the exhaust valve. Used to do this when we were young and dumb. Shut off the ignition, squirt some fuel, hit the key, POW, all the raw fuel in the exhaust system ignites. Real cool in the dark. Now, I have seen mufflers blown right off cars doing this and have replaced a few exhaust valves on motorcycles from others doing it when I worked in the shop. Good luck and hopefully you now know this is not a good idea.
