what does everyone here use ?

I cut two 2"x12"X18" long boards which I tapered the ends to drive the bike onto then put the kickstand on another board. This was the easist way to get the lift under the bike, and I use the HD rubber adapters that fit on the frame.
Works very well.
When you change your oil filter, cut the bottom off an old 2-liter soda bottle and slice the top so you can get you hand in to remove the filter. The oil drains into the top of the bottle and doesn't make a mess on your bike. Much better than the aluminum foil method I tried the first oil change.
I have a simple Dunwell frame jack. Doesn't take up much room, and very handy for other things around the garage, too. Sears now sells one that seems to be pretty good for a low price (relativly speaking).
You don't need a lot of special tools to do basic maint. You'll need a set of allen and torx sockets or wrenches. And a small filter wrench. These things you can find at Home Depot, Sears, etc. No magic, just simple mechanics.
I like it a lot. I've had it for about 9 years, and three Harleys. It's very sturdy, and kinda heavy. It has wheels that roll pretty easily, and has fit under every bike we've tried it on without any adapters. I've also used it for a variety of ther projects - installing differentials, axle housings, gas tanks, transmissions. It will support a small block Ford. If you lay a board across it, it makes a nice seat when you're doing a brake job on your car.
As is noted above, the new Dyna frame is a little differant. The oil pan hangs down below the frame rails. So there's a 1 1/8" strip of metal welded to the bottom of the frame rail - like a skid plate. But there's nothing on the left side. I just put a 1" thick piece of wood under the left side rail. No big deal.
