I was right where you are a year + ago. I had the Bob, completely tricked out (almost $4K in extras, not just for looks, but comfort). I have a bad back and the rides were killing me. I finally bit the bullet and traded it in for a SG. While i still miss the bob, i made the right decision. The SG is the most comfortable ride i've ever owned. It definitely costs more, but i feel it's worth it. It's keeping me out on the road where i like it and i no longer feel the pain.
for the record, i had invested in the windshield, 16" apes, a new seat, new shocks, etc for comfort. Still didn't work.
You've got a cool looking bike there - you want to hang onto it I think.
Like others posting here I agree your best bet is to do both - my wife suggested we get a Road King to go with the FXDXDyna 'cos the Badlander was disagreeing with her butt (I told her it was a std Dyna saddle).
However I guess that may not be an option for you - otherwise you'd be down the dealer instead of asking our opinions. I'd say to do a detachable screen and luggage - if your riding style and majority usage is suited to a Dyna then you'll find a bagger a lot slower on the twisties (unless you're a better rider than me anyway) and that might be just as uncomfortable to live with as your current problem.
