I had the SEII's to start with and I never really fell in love with them. It's not loud for the sake of being loud that I want, it's more of the sound. Traded up to V&H's straightshots, liked the sound but always liked the look of the big radius. So, when I found a set of those on sale, I bought them. I really love the look and sound of my pipes now.
It's really personal preference. But I can tell you that I've had 2 friends start out with the "legal" SE mufflers and neither of them was happy with them and traded off for something else within weeks.
I have a pair of Screaming Eagle slip on that were sold as torque mufflers. They increase the torque numbers of the motor. They say on the underside that they are not for street use but for racing applications. Nice sound..not loud but had a definite bark when you roll on the throttle. They are straight cut on the ends not slash down or out. I think they stopped making these in 06 as I had to search for them in 07.
I have them on my '09 street bob.
definitely sound better than stock--slightly louder with a much deeper tone.
I am very happy with mine.
I had rineharts on my previous bike (sportster) and they sounded good, but were too loud for me.
only way to be sure is to listen to them installed on another bike before you buy.

Those are the SE II's and they stopped making them in 06. I bought a set new from my dealer not long after getting my bike in Nov. of 06 and it was the last set they had in stock and they said they couldn't get anymore.
Honestly, if I were doing slipons again, not knowing or having had the V&H's Straightshots before and, therefore, not sure that they would be just right, I would go with RUSH slipons. Mainly because they look and sound good and the baffles can easily be modified with different sizes without having the swap out the entire mufflers.
Timely post..
I just put a pair of CC's on Mamas' 09 FXDB and she is happy with the sound but she lives in a crowded community and after just one week there have been neighborhood complaints..Bottom line: No DOT stamp.. she is screwed and will probably have to go with the SE's

when u guys changed your slip ons did anyone have the ecm remapped?
Every one ive talked to has said you have to get the bike dyno'd and remapped or put tuner kit on. All i want to know is can i remove the glass w/o remapping? i like the SE mufflers but want a little more w/o spending a whole lot more. They could be a little more aggressive sounding, after all it is a Harley.
