Nice to know if you have bags - could be in issue.

Sorry for asking about the price. Didnt realize that was a big no-no around here.

I'm used to people asking/informing each other about price. I'm not shopping around, but if the price comes out reasonable enough, it may be an impulse buy on my end.

Slowly learning the "etiquette" on this site. Just different than what I'm used to.

Again, my apologies for my lack of "gentleman" behavior.
You did nothing wrong or break any rule. Don't sweat it!

I agree that Ohlins makes great stuff, but if you were going "minimalistic" on this bike, you went too far already IMO. A springer conversion, yes, but overboard on the rear. Will NEVER look or be "minimalistic" now. Especially in gold. But, different strokes for different folks! Ride on man!

If you don't like the gold reservoirs, which I didn't (reminds me of the rappers from the 80's with the big gold chains)...you can always get them chromed. Howard @ MotorcycleMetal helped with this extra work.

Yes it was not inexpensive, but was fortunate to get a break on the pricing.

all chrome look sweet! Howard can probably get em done up all black too. Not the shaft of course. BTW all Ohlin's have the same internals...etc. The differences in the line are in having the external reservoir and added adjustments. The lower cost 36E is the same quality as top of the line, just without the added adjustability.

<<< Tom, please just ride your bike till the wheels fall off. Chrome will not get you through your 3 week riding season up there. This project is not one I wish to take on any time soon.

rounder, BTW all Ohlin's have the same internals...etc.
<<< You are correct with the exception of a separator piston for applications where we separate the oil from the nitrogen gas. To see how these units work please go to my site under Penske as they both use the same type (sort of) system. That is why the ride is far superior than anything else out there. For the pre-owned Progressive shock crowd, you already know the difference.

This type of shock uses the spring only to hold the axle in place. The spring rate matches a neutral setting whereas if the moves up or down the spring only handles the same weight as it was originally designed for. The piston is the factor that regulates the action which has in your case a high, medium, and low speed compression and rebound orifices found on either the top or bottom of the piston. There is also shim packs that allows us to change the settings (more or less resistance) to tune the shock to your exact preference and ride.

Other companies rely on the spring to do the suspension part. That is one of many differences and that is why you Ohlins owners are experiencing the ride you are and any other shock is not.

Tom, what it looks like apart just before chroming/polishing. PS keep your shocks on.

Keep the gold. It's Ohlin's trademark look. Anyone who knows quality components will know you do too, just by the look.

Good stuff guys!

Just too bad that Ohlins doesn't make something that looks old school minimal, but with the same performance (flat black, with collars and a hidden resevoir not attached to the shock). Thinking of getting one myself, but put off by the look as well a bit..

I wonder if Howard can have them done in black semigloss with black springs? Would look killer...

Absolutely! The shock itself looks great! Just need an option to anodize in black or natural instead of gold. The hidden reservoir might be a PITA to mount, and with the hose hanging off, look like **** too!
