Its weird for all the years i,ve been riding every now and then you here of or see this happen and cringe. I guess most of us have mechanical sympathy, unfortunately a few don,t. Would,nt want to buy anything mechanical off them though
personally, I don't turn on the bike till I'm ready to go. That is, I have my helmet on, am on the bike, glasses on, hands on the controls, then I turn on the switch, press the starter, and I'm off. I don't like leaving it running so someone would have the chance to mess with it.
Anyway, like others have said, a rev of the engine won't hurt it. If it does, it's best to find out now while it's on warranty.
Why back in my motocross days, we'd basicly hold the engine at the rev limiter until the gate dropped then accelerate by letting out the clutch. Didn't hurt the engine one bit.
By the way, I was the master at pulling the hole shot, that was my secret.
The worst part about this whole thing is the guy has a brand new bike and he is never going to really enjoy it, always wondering if those revs caused some type of underlying damage that will eventually show up at the most unexpected moment.
So I go to see this friend the other nite to show off my new Fatbob. We go on his porch have a couple beers. About an hour later I go out front to leave, start the bike and while I,m putting on my helmet he guns the motor, real hard, 3 times so his wife could hear it. It has 600 miles on it, I put fresh oil in it at 500. Should I be concerned of any engine damage ? It ran fine on the way home. Some people just p@#$ me off.
Maybe your 'friend' thought he was twisting your 'throttle'....:>)
Sounds like you might need to do a "lean-over" with your largest & sharpest belt buckle on his tank.
A "Good" friend would be careful of "Your" stuff. You might need to rethink your idea of a buddy. I had one and after 25 years realized he had became more a "parasite" than a friend.
I cant believe that!
Now your bike is a friggin time bomb, its only a matter of time before that engine pops like a water baloon. I'lll be surprised if you get 15 more miles out of it.
Better sell it now and for cheap!
seriously you guys seriously, why even respond to something like this?
Skidder... do you really believe that harley makes such a poor product that one high rev (new or not) is going to break it. Lets apply some common sense.
I would never ever touch anybodies bike with out asking. Even then I wouldnt rev the **** out of somebody elses bike because I wouldnt do that to my own. No offense to the OP but your friend is obviously clueless when it comes to bikes. I dont like anybody touching my bike. Touching my bike will get the same response as touching my *****. A vicious blow to the face. Now if it's a good friend I may hold back the punch in the face for touching my bike but all bets are off he goes for my *****. : )
