Im looking to get my first HD, and I'm looking at an 09 Dyna Street Glide, or Street Bob. Does HD run any kind of promotions like other manufacturers? Most will offer special financing, or something off at the end of summer, does HD do this it? When I asked a sales person at the local dealer he was kind of arrogant about it, told me it was HD and they didnt have to offer deals. I think in this environment they should reconsider if that's the case.
How much can I expect to pay, do they sell for full retail these days? How about shipping and dealer prep, does this vary from dealer to dealer? What can I expect?
Sounds like you found an a-hole dealer. I suggest calling a few in your area and asking them to give you their best price. Chances are, they'll offer some sort of incentive program on the 09's when the 10's are released at the end of the summer. From what I've read here from others buying new bikes, most are paying MSRP, but are getting a lot of extras thrown in for free; ie - $1500 in store credit for parts/clothes, no 'set up fee', free service, etc. Just like with a new car, your best bet is to get quotes from a couple dealers and ask them to beat the other guy. Good luck!
I bought a black denim '07 SB for under $12k from a dealer in February with 3k miles on it. I felt pretty decent about the price and after about 6k miles am loving it. The bike originally came from Alaska but made its way down to the Great State of Oklahoma, where I found it on a lot.
I would consider finding the bike I want at the dealer and then looking for used bikes. It seems like if you shop up north, the used bikes have a lot less miles on them.
F That Dealer ! Just think what will happen if you have a problem and the sevice dept. is the same way. Find another dealer. And yes HD has specials on 2009 bikes NOW. Nothing except the Tri-Glide is going for MSRP around here. Shop and then shop some more.
Thanks, that's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure. I know HD had a lot of good years and had trouble keeping bikes in stock, but I thought things changed.
Dirty Jerzey,
The best deals you may find are probably this month from now till the middle of the first week in august and in January but it also depends what part of the country you are shopping in. And how bad the economy has dumped there. Remember you may find a really sweet deal on a clean used bike because someone had to have the latest and greatest, shop around. If a HD dealership or sales person shows arrogance to the consumer just keep shoping

It always amazes me how some dealers are so arrogant while others are not at all. When I bought my first bike a few years back I visited two local dealers. The first one treated me like crap and didn't really take me seriously (probably because I'm young). My brother and I were both buying at the same time and asked if they could swing us any type of deal. They told us that they are Harleys and the price is the price.
We moved on to another dealer who treated us with respect and knocked a bit off of MSRP for us. Needless to say they got our business and when it came time to buy my '09 I didn't even consider buying anywhere else.
Find 3 or 4 of the closest dealers to you, and get quotes on out the door price. Let each dealer know you are getting quotes from the other dealers. My dealer came down $2500 to beat the other dealers in my area.
Walk man, walk. Find a dealer who will deal. I just walked on sweet deal on a new Electraglide. I asked for a very small consideration and they would not do it. Plenty of bikes out there.
If you can, get pre-approved for financing at your credit union, bank, etc.
This will enable better negotiations. Consider going out of state if the market is too good in your area. If you buy slightly used then you can avoid the setup and shipping charges. Don't let them entice you in getting parts or clothes as part of the bike financing. Have a budget and stick with it; find another dealer or even a individual selling on Craigslist or something like that.
The dealers here in Austin TX stick it to you because they can. They can't even keep a Fat Bob on the showroom floor. Good luck!
