Press Release #2.....
......The Wide GlideŽ returns as an all-new DynaŽ model done in old-school chopper style, with black laced wheels, a chopped rear fender, black "wire" sissy bar, 2-1-2 Tommy Gun exhaust and an optional flame paint scheme. Priced starting at $14,499, the Wide Glide is also a great new value.
Well put Baeseman1,
Seems the word new references year models, value, and styling points on all fronts. Since the Wide Glide premiered as a custom chopper platform in it's birth, rather than a stone platform, it is destined to change in keeping with the trends that follow it's "custom chopper niche" .

How long could it remain the "custom chopper wild child" HD has long touted it as, if it became locked into a finite mold???

Many traditionalists hated the first Wide Glide, given its custom cues driven by non-conforming individuals who ignored the then stagnant cycle dress....

well it's happening again....

...black is the new chrome, and retro fenders are the latest CUSTOM approach replacing a fender that over time evolved from Wide Glide distinction, to common dress. The Wide Glide IS setting itself apart again. If you like constant... consider a "mainstay" model, if you want custom, remember it will require change... like the FXDWG should if it is to merit the title "CUSTOM' WILD CHILD!!

I see the poll is leaning away from recognizing the latest Wide Glide for what it is labeled. I'm losing, but not entirely alone. Guess the more things change the more they stay the same.
How about some pics to back that breakfast up....especially since you say your pic was takin before Willie and his wife "opted" out. Don't tell me ya didn't have a camera or didn't take any pics....I'm not gonna buy that.

I liked it enough to buy it, now I'm "customizing it". But I like the black parts, not a huge fan of chrome and the fender so its here to stay. Removed the Passenger Pillon and Sissy bar, got some other parts. Its in the shop getting a SE 110 so I'll take some photos of it when I get it back.

Did anyone, including myself, purchase a Wide Glide because of it's value?
The Street Bob has value - great bang for the buck. I bought the WG because I liked it's style and all the chrome.

The Street Bob, Fat Bob, Cross Bones, Rocker, etc. were introduced as new models to follow the current trends. Most of which came from pieces/parts from existing bikes, but garnered a new name from HD. That's what my thought/argument on the new WG is. It's a 'new' bike and should have a 'new' name.

That screams bob - not glide.

Well duh, 2008...

Welcome to the family... Don't take me (and my poll) the wrong way - I DO like the bike. Just think it's more deserving of a new name is all...

Looking forward to your comments on the 110 kit. Be sure you start a new thread with your review to be sure you get decent views/comments/questions. And be sure to post those photos...

Baseman1, You called this a poll. Keep it simple is what you said up front right? I even concurred with your reason for the poll. But alas, if they (HD) added a new name every time they made a change, the family tree would quickly become alphabet soup... at least we can find the "new" Wide Glide by reading the paper tag on the bars, even if the rest looks, well .... updated for 2010? Hence their proclaimation...
....The NEW Wide Glide, (implies different than the OLD Wide Glide).... "DUH" about covers it. Well put!

Well stevengb....I NEVER mentioned any pictures... but since you asked/guessed;
Willie G., his wife, and son Bill. Picture taken morning of Aug 16th 2009. Willie is holding a "challenge-coin" which had just been given to him by E. Land, a U.S. State Dept Official, whose family I had lived with during my tenure with the Marine Corps Rifle Team from 1998-2003. (I'm now retired disabled Vet USMC 1983-2005), hence the invite that afforded me the coincidental opportunity to be a part of this "get-together".

BTW... Thanks everyone for the welcome aboard! (sarcasm) ! Guess I'd be leary of anything that sounded like a tall tale too.
If anyone ever wondered, they (the Davidsons) are very gracious and as personable a group of folks as I'd always heard.
