Shifter Arm Shaft
This will be the 3rd shifter arm instaled 36,000 miles. I am heavy footed but come on. Anyway I have the bike tourn down to it. I find that the shaft itself is a bit worn so I have ordered a new one while I have it down that far. It will be here friday. Looking in the manual I dont see any reason to worry about pulling the top of the tranny and removeing the clip and swaping the shafts out.
Am I missing anything here?
Second question, It was a bear getting the compinsator bolt off to say the least, the manual had me take that off after the clutch was out so the brake didnt help any. I see the special tool in the manual but dont really see how it helps. I have a welder and tourch so I didnt order the tool thinking I would make somthing. Is there something anyone knows of? The only thing I could find in a thread here was use a flat bar but it didnt explain. I didnt like how I got it out even though it is out and I didnt breakanything there must be a better way.
Last question is, is everyone really greasing the rear swing arm every 20,000 miles. I guess I will do it sinse I am down anyway and have everything out of the way.
Thanks for any advise on this little job that started with my second broken after market braded clutch cable. While I am down I thought I would go ahead and change the shifting arm before it goes out on me. I made it home both times with the broken clutch cable probably wont be so lucky with the shift arm and shaft. I am gona keep something with me and tighten that arm everyday!
Any preventive tips wil be apreciated also
Thanks
