I just put the 440 HD series on my bike. I got part # 440-4048B (which is the 12.5" black heavy duty version). They're so much better than the stock shocks and the 09 Ultra air shocks I was using. I got them from one of our forum sponsors (Phat Performance). They were great to deal with and had one of the best prices I could find plus free shipping.
I had 11" shocks and with the missus on we didn't bottom out. Did have trouble with the wiring, mainly turn signals as for some reason my wheel sits closer the left of the rear guard than the right side does.
Went to a 10.5" shock but wasn't game to try with the missus riding pillion so I throw the OEM shocks back on, got it down to about a 10min change over now.
sounds good. thats what i need then. 12.5 black heavy dutys
Can I sound a word of warning here? My observation about Harleys and shocks is that when riding solo a change of shocks can easily give an improved ride. But when riding 2-up the rules change! The passenger gets a very different riding experience stuck out there at the back, than the rider does. So what I am saying is that a pair of shocks that a solo rider is happy with may not suit a rider who wants to travel 2-up.
Fastharley won't say so, but he custom builds Ohlins shocks and I have a pair on my Glide. You say you don't want to bottom out? My wife and I no longer bottom out on our bike, with a total rolling weight of around 1200 pounds! You could consider phoning Howard (Fastharley) and having a chat with him. He will sort you out - the one stop shocks shop!
I can't imagine any of this being worth doing. I love the look, and really want to slam the rear of my WG, but not at the risk of damaging the bike, or even the wife.
Does anyone have any experiences (good/bad) with the Burly kit?
With the progressive HD shocks at 12.5" you should not have any issues and should have a decent ride. I run them on my WG and just run up the preload when riding 2up with the saddle bags. Ride is pretty damn good all the way around.
You can see in my sig pic I have plenty of travel room from fender to tire.
