I only had one color of wire, so i spliced mine inside the bars...that way the ends were the correct color.
Exactly what I did as well, as you can see by the picture I posted above. You just make sure the wire going into your splice, is the same color as the wire coming off that same splice... no problems.
Also, removing the terminals from the connector is required, but is easy to do. I made a "tool" to do it easier, from a spare throttle return spring I had laying around. Fits perfect into the 'release' hole in the connector.
Could you post pictures of the install and did you join the wires inside the bars?
Actually the splice, where I put it, is almost completely external to the bars. I put it close to the end where the connector is. That way I knew that there would be no splice right in the middle of the bar.
I also covered the wires coming out of the bar, in a nylon braid wire loom that I got at a local hydraulic hose shop.
Here's a shot of my right handle: Where the small blue tape is, is for the turnsignal wires.. of which mine are already on the forks. The larger blue tape is where the switch housing mounts... and the wires go right up in and through that hole.
