So as it goes now on my 08 FXDF about every 200 miles
I get the dreaded front end clunk.
I would go through proper adjustment checks and re-torque stem nut. I have the correct washer so not sure why it keeps needing to be re-adjusted and torqued. So the clunk comes up and I get pissed so I re torque again.
This weekend rolls around and again clunk. So I go through procedure and loosen stem nut but this time it won't budge and it seems the stem nut is stripped
Any suggestions on how to get it off? I've been both ways with it and it won't move. I'm so pissed at myself and the stupid clunking problem.

Heat may be your only choice at this point. I'd want my local HD shop to "fix it", and be parked outside their door when it returned in a week or a month so they could fix it again.
Its not the stem nut that gets loose, its the bearing adjuster nut that gets loose, or is loose, it holds the bearing in underneath the top triple tree and it controls the amount of free play on the bearings, thats where the clunk comes from.
Tightening the stem nut just tightens the stem nut and has no effect on the clunk issue.
