Dig into it, and don't look back. The only thing I'd be nervous about is not opening it up and riding out in the middle of nowhere months down the road and wondering, what's with the lights flickering, and that loud noise coming from my primary.
This job reminds me of the timing belt I replaced on my 01 Tacoma last year. Had to tear the front part of the engine off and fabricate a 2x4 with dilled holes in it to lock my crankshaft down, bla bla bla, same with removing the primary and a cutting board to lock my main drive shaft and ha ha. I think I busted the same knuckles up on that job too.
A new box of bandaids and a tube of neosporin is a requirement before starting any job
Except for a few bumps, the whole job didnt go too bad.
Last night while pressing out the OLD IPB the outer race broke and the bearings fell out leaving the outer race in the inner primary. Using the appropriate socket and hammer technique the next step was to break off most of the outer race lip and wedge the socket down into the race After removal of said socket, we decided to heat up the inner primary and then Joe grabbed the biggest screwdriver he could find and knocked out the bearing
After getting that out, the job went pretty smooth.
You two should have started this project with a video camera. You could have titled it "The Inner Primary From Hell". It would have been a B movie cult classic.
That is no joke! It was the IPB from hell! At least last night we had ice cold refreshments to help things along. This is what I looked like for most of the assembly>
*edit* Now that I think about it, Joe looked like that too! Maybe thats how the socket got in the bearing?
