Is there a way to get that race off the trans shaft other than the method you guys employed w/ the welding and all ... other than w/ the appropriate tool which I don't have?

I was doing some thinking about that the other day when we were getting ready to weld it up.

I was thinking that should be able to use a gear puller on it. If the puller cant catch the edge of the race either because its shifted too far in and the edge can't be seen, or the edge just isnt big enough for the puller to grab. You might be able to clamp a shaft collar on the race and use the puller on the shaft collar to pull it off.

shaft collar I would use the two piece clamp on.

I think if the race is pushed into the trans output shaft, welding or something similar to a shaft collar would be necessary to avoid tearing into the trans.

Two and three jaw pullers from sears aren't that expensive, and they are a pretty nice tool to have around. I usually watch for stuff like that to go on sale and buy it when I don't need it. Helps out for bad situations when money is a big issue.

I wonder what the P/N is on his rotor? I don't see where/if he listed it. Joe, is there a P/N on your rotor?

If you have a 4" grinder you can grind the race down until you have a spot that is thin. you'll need a new wheel on it so you can reach the back of the race.

Once you get it ground down you can use one of these to ger behind it and pry it lose.

If you get it thin enough it will split and you can work it right off. It's hard to see but it is split.

Just be careful to not go too far and get into the shaft!

Does this baker bearing fit like it is listed? Slip fit on the main shaft? Will be doing mine before long.

Yes it just slips onto the main shaft. Getting ready to bolt it all together and get back on the road.

Ackman, thats a pretty good idea. I wish we would have had that option. If you look at the pics Joe posted up of his, you can see where 1/4" of it was sitting inside the trans output shaft. We couldn't get anywhere near the back side of it. Glad you got yours off too. What a crappy design. I wonder if Baker makes a replacement for my 03?

Heres another option. Both of these were removed without pulling the drive sprocket. The first one was only cut up to the seal wear mark before I split it, the second pic got cut twice cause I started at a bad angle on the first cut
