08 Dyna (FXDC) Front Brake Pad Replacement

08 Dyna (FXDC) Front Brake Pad Replacement
Does anyone have any experience replacing the front brake pads on an 08 Dyna? Mines a Superglide Custom but I imagine they are all the same. The caliper on the 08s are 2 piece. When I took mine off I was not expecting this and brake fluid went everywhere. I got it all back together ok and bled the brakes so everything works fine, but is there an easier way to do this? I hate the thought of having to actually brake seals in order to just replace pads.

It should be no different than most all dyna's. There are two small little 12pt bolts that are all you have to release and the pads fall right out. Sounds like what you did was take the actuall bolts that hold the caliper together out.
All you should have to do is loosen the two small 12pt bolts push the pads back some with small screw driver or puddy knife and then pull the pins and the pads will fall out.
Its explained very easily in the manual but from what your saying i think you took the bolts out that holds the caliper together i saw a buddy do this once before i could stop him and make a mess we had to bleed his breaks as well and put it all back together.

Is your caliper 2 pieces? On mine the bottom most bolt and the top right bolt hold the 2 pieces together. On the pads there is only one hole for the pin (middle right) to go through and it is then held to the piston with a clamp that the pad clips to.
I have a manual but it is not real clear. I guess I just should have read it first. I usually take the back caliper off and clean it when I do a service. Taking all 4 of the bolts off on the front will result in a breach of the front brake system and the brakes will have to be bled.

Are your calipers stock? I just changed my front pads last weekend on my 06 FXDBI and it was just as described above - loosen the two 12pt bolts surrounding the larger center bolt, remove the entire caliper from the fork/disc by removing the two bolts on the fork, push the pistons back, remove the little 12pt bolts and the pads just fall off.
As mentioned, if these are stock calipers, it sounds like you messed with the wrong bolts.

OK. I took it to an Indy shop close to here and this was the problem. I'm not sure what year this changed but on my 08 there is one bolt called a bridge bolt that goes through the pads. The front pads on an 08 have one hole at the top of the pad. To get the pads out you only remove the middle right bolt as seen in the picture in the post above. Inside the pistons is a clip that the pads attach to. This allows the piston to pull the pads away from the rotor when you release the brake. The problem was that one of the pads was not attached to the clip which caused it to not pull away from the rotor. If you live in the Columbus GA or Phenix City AL area the Indy name is Bike Barn.

Can't get the pads to drop out...
Hey guys - I have an '08 FXDL and looking for suggestion on how to get the front brand pad springs to free up?
I was able to pry back the pucks and removed the center Bridge Bolt, but the pads wont drop out!
