did a search and didnt find anything. looking for some help dissasemling the forks so i can send the lowers off to get powder coated. dont have the compresion tool, so was wondering if there is another trick out there, pictures help. thanks
If your search didn't find anything, you didn't search for the right words - because the information is out there. Do a search on the dyna forum using keywords "lower sliders". Look for posts by SC-Longhair, Bberck, etc. You might even find a couple with my name on them that you might find helpful.
You don't have to remove the forks from the bike just to remove the sliders. You will need some metric tools including a 12mm hex key to get the bolts out of the bottom and many metric sets don't include that size. Sears sells one for 8 bucks.
super easy, i take them out of the tubes, drain the fork oil, then put them back in the trees, pop up the dust covers, remove the retaing clip (small screw driver), then remove the 12mm allen head in the bottom of the slider (i use an impact) after it is out , just use the down tube like a slide hammer it will pop off... to re assemble do in reverse only i use a pice of 2 in PVC as a seal driver... after the seal is seated and you assemble them be sure you burp your shocks as you add fluid... pop them back in and you are good to go
