So, there is a good chance I am going to at least make an offer on a use '08 Street Bob tomorrow. It has less than 10k miles and is under warranty for another 5 months. It looks mint in the photos but I'll be checking it out in person tomorrow. Anything specific to look for on these models? I usually do most of my own work on bikes/cars/etc unless expensive specialized tools are required, FWIW. Can I purchase the ESP plan from Harley since it is still under warranty? I am not getting it from a dealership....so it would be an additional step after the fact.
less than 10k is about right for an 08. just take it for a good long ride and put it through its paces. all gears, different speeds etc. if its still under warrenty and seams in good running order i say buy it and bring it to the dealer for a 10k service and tell them to do a good once over.

I think you will be very happy with it. Check the front master cylinder for signs of leakage (paint bubbles around seal). That is a warranty issue on all '08 Dynas. Also check dust seal on rear wheel bearing, right hand side. Mine came off and lubricant seeped out causing the bearing to begin to fail. I caught it in time when I noticed a squirrely feeling in the rear wheel. Also warranty repair. Good Luck!

Great, thanks, that's just want I was looking for. I know every year/model has it's quirks so this helps give me something specific to look for. Does 9k sound like a good price?

I don't know why 'less than 10k miles is about right for an 08'... mine has 25,800 miles on it. I've never had an issue with master cylinder leakage or rear, wheel bearing dust seals... but the swing arm bearing & bushing were replaced under warranty after 17,500 miles.
The factory extended warranty is usually a total waste of cash. That goes for the 10k Dealer Service as well, which... I'm pretty sure is just an oil change.
With 5 months of warranty that should take you to May, maybe late April... depending on the date of sale?
Your close visual inspection should revel any surface dis-continuity in the over-all condition of the machine. Its actual mechanical condition however, as you know, can only be assessed by riding it... the more miles (under warranty) the better.
Have you thought about having the local dealer run the vin number for any service records... including any possible warranty repairs.
Do you know if the previous owner used synthetic fluids? If they did their own service do they have the receipts to verify it?
If neither the Dealer… nor the previous owner… has any records, then that would be a huge RED FLAG!
I don't know when the weather breaks in your part of the country... but there may still be enough time to ride it like hell before the warranty expires. Yea, that’s right... try to break what ever is weak & let the MoCo fix it for FREE.
Oh, buy the way... about those service records... be sure to get &/or make copies and maintain them as an on going pedigree for the bike.
10,000 miles is still new... it'll probably serve you well.
Well..... I checked out the bike and did not make an offer. Here are the concerns: 1. the glass on the speedo was 'foggy' as in just not 100% clear. 2. the front break cylinder was totally a mess, most of the paint was either bubbled up or gone and touched up with something that was not quite right. 3. Signs of rust starting at the very back of both the front and rear fender, bubbling under the paint, no rust visible but it was gonna come through. All of that and they were firm on the 10k price, I really wanted to get them down to 9k, at 10 it just did not quite seem like the best deal, although it is still a good price for this area.....gotta love the DC/NOVA area
