What i do too help the cost of the oil is sign up for there perferred membership http://www.amsoil.com/a/wholesale-preferred-customer

It cost like 10$ for 6 months but i buy a 6th month then order enough oil for atleast a year maybe even 2. In the end you save money doing it this way.

Also your buddys are going to want some so you will always have extra laying around for sale

According to some of the posts on the previous page, that "2 year" amount adds up to about 3 quarts. LOL

I would not recommend not changing oil, but I think many people have become crazy about oil, changing it way too often, and spending way too much money on it.

use the amsoil. use 20w50 in all holes or the severe gear formulas in the tranny and 20w50 in the other 2. Both ideas well exceed the requirements for your engine and gears and will just boil down to personal preference.

Talk to some mechanics, ask them what weight oil that gearboxes usually like.
Good chance they will not tell you that Gearboxes like Motor oil. They like Gearbox oil.

Don't listen to recommendations from those that are not mechanics, for their knowledge is based more on hearsay than experience.

Always consider the source of info. (in any aspect of life).

I am originally a Hoosier, but the show me state Missouri has become my motto. Have tested Amsoil for a year now. Not completely scientific but as best I can do without a dyno. My oil temp dropped an average of 20 over all seasons once averaged. Fuel economy up almost 2%. Tranny much quieter with the 75/140W gear oil. How much better than Mobil one? Who knows? Syn 3 it makes my tranny whine and raise engine temp 15 compared to AMSOIl. Remember Harley used to tell you not to use SYN. Now that it is their brand they say it is okay? Whats up with that??

nope, just satisfied customers and mechanics. Anyhow, all these posts end up with someone always shouting conspiracy, conspiracy because a few manufactures have 20w50 that exceeds the standards by which gear oil is measured and as such can be recommend for use in the tranny of our bikes. Argue till your eyes bleed, the amsoil 20w50 is a great fluid for use in our trannys(and is thus rated accordingly). The 75/150 does have a higher rating, yet is designed for severe gear use and as such may just be overkill (our trannys do not need a severe gear formula). Of course, some feel that the severe gear is quieter in 5th or whatever. I have had 20w50 and a couple of formulas of severe gear in my tranny. One thing I noticed.... no difference at all. Run an oil rated for the application and enjoy! It will all boil down to personal preference and placebo factors anyways.
Synthetic will run cooler than dyno for sure though.
