Engine oil has been working fine in transmissions on high horsepower metric bikes for a long time, but I use plain `ol dino gear lube in my HD transmission (whatever I have on the shelf at the time).
When I pulled my gearset at 115,000 miles, the gears and bearings were fine (I replaced the tapered shaft gearset with a splined mainshaft unit).

I see so many Amsoild threads anymore that I am convinced that half you guys are dealers for the stuff. LOL
I am and i dont try to hide it. In fact for a long time i simply used Amsoil and liked it so much that when i opened my shop i became a dealer for them. Dont see the dilema here
