I'm thinking about running AMSOIL 20W50 in all 3 holes. Has anyone had any experience doing this? I've used AMSOIL in my jap bikes and it sure made it shift smoother. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks, Dandy
Yes its best to not run 20-50 in the trans, even harley is not pushing it because it doesn't have the shear factors gear oil has if you want to stay with harley oil, use formula 1 it is 50 weight but has added shear ajents, amsoil 75/90 gear oil or mobil1 75/90 is much better unless you ride or keep bike stored under 40 degres.
You will be very pleased with Amsoil, and they have a gear oil that cannot be beat for your trans. At work,do not have catalog to give part number. All my vehicles are bathed in Amsoil and have used synthetics since they were introduced to us back in the 70's.Good luck
I run Amsoil 20W-50 in the crankcase, 10W-40 in the primary, and 75W-90 Severe gear in the transmission in the Road King. Shifts smoother and quieter and less heat on the thighs. Won't be using anything else.
I was using MCV 20/50 in the crankcase & Primary and SVG 75/90 in the tranny. I did that successfully for several changes and recently my Primary cover started leaking. After talking with a riding bud, who had experienced the same thing, I stopped using it in the Primary and .... no more leaks!
At the moment, I have the new HD Primary stuff in it ~ NOT Sync3.
