I have a 2008 Dyna FXDC and want to install forward foot controls on it. I do have the Harley engine guard (highway bar) installed as well, what would be a good part number for me to get and also has to be chrome. I was thinking of installing myself so how is the installation process? Easy or hard? And does the cover have to come off?

Jeff,
What kind of engine bar are you using? The U-bolt type or the frame mounted type?
Fwd ctrl set only works with U-bolt type crash bar.
Install process isn't to difficult and will take you about 1,5 hrs I guess; no need to take off your primary cover.
If you need any info on the fwd ctrl set, check out my database for the Instructions Sheet.
Yes I have the crash bar with the U clamps and I read W6 instructions and this is what I dont understand as per W6:
Removing the original shift shaft lever
Get a hacksaw blade and tape each end with duct tape, leaving about two inches exposed in the middle. Also put some duct tape on the primary and cylinder cooling fins. Tape a wrench on one end to get a better grip (on the end of the blade so as you pull on the wrench you will be on the cutting stroke of the blade). Slip the blade between the primary and engine from the bottom of the bike with the wrench end on the bottom. Position the shaft so you can cut about a quarter inch from the lever (not in the welded area). Use your other hand to guide the top of the blade as you cut. After cutting through, the shaft will slide right out, and the lever will just fall to the floor.
You would be cutting the shift shaft that goes thru the primary. The only other way to remove the shaft would be to remove the inner and outer primary covers.

+1....
If you do not want to cut the shaft, it can be covered by item 12 from parts list in attachement.

I tried cutting the shifter shaft with a hacksaw blade as described by WS6 Formula ... it was an unmitigated disaster ... I couldn't do it ....
I don't know what I was doing 'wrong' ... according to his instructions ... good luck if you try it ... I busted my knuckles trying for over an hour ... getting nowhere and gave up ....
I ended up using a cutting wheel, approaching from the inner primary ... had to flush all the metal filings out of my primary case ... then twisted and grunted for another half hour trying to retrieve the remnants from between the engine block and inner primary ... finally got it out ... but, what a royal pain in the **** ...!
Before, I had a 'beauty cap' over the original mid-control shifter shaft (item 12 part number 34640-93 in Rene's drawing) but, figured 'hey - how hard can it be to remove it?' ... well, I found out ...
I'm probably going to be flame sprayed for being such a dumb a$$ that I couldn't get it; but, I gave it the old college try ... good luck ....

But, as Rene says, actually installing the forwards and all is a pretty easy job ... piece of cake ....
O.k let me get this straight, if I order 49080-06A and it DOESN'T have the shaft cover and set screw as in the parts call out that Rene has posted on the thumbnail does that mean I need to order the Cap 34640-93 and setscrew 3231b separately?
