this may sound lame but i am not much in the wiring/electrical department. my ride is an 02 fxdl and i wanted to get rid of the eyebrow. my idiot lights are relocated and when i plugged the headlight back in, no light and my high beam idiot light doesnt work. none of the headlight wires appear to be broken. i had to cut the ground wire to put the wires in the new headlight bucket, could this be the problem? not getting a volt reading at the headlight plug with the battery on, bad fuse? any help would be appreciated.
start at the ground issue and check the fuse. check your connections and make sure the wires are hot and getting power, before going into the headlight.
cut it close to the light bucket so i would have extra wire. no matter what i touch it to, no light. there are 3 wires that plug into the light and then the ground that was riveted to the old bucket. cut it close to the rivet and left the end bare. i have read that some new style lights ground through the triple tree so is that wire even needed?
I know you said you didn't have power, but did you check each wire with a voltmeter to see what registered? Did you pull/change the fuse to rule that out?
not sure how many wires your new light has and how the older dynas are set up but here is what i did on my 2007
Removed the old light cut wires fitted the new light and soldered all wires and heat shrinked everything good and tested i had 3 wires in my HD harness the white/yellow/black. New light had red and a yellow. To work right you have to have the new light red goes to the yellow on HD and the New light yellow goes to the white on HD black ground capped off.
